I think some people look at it as a symbol of value. The receiver will look at the ring as a symbol of how valuable they are to the giver. Or at how valuable the giver is because they have fat stacks. Or, to those perpetratin B's, how much more value this ring has than yours.

Yeah, I don't get it either but I conformed anyway.

I think Debeers(sp?) had alot to do with creating the perception of diamonds being a big deal.

yea I'm not into this diamond ring crap and how u must go into major debt just to marry some beeeeotch who won't appreciate it anyway. Its a status symbol to most chicks and how they landed a big one who will pay all their bills so they can let themselves go...and if he wants to leave they take his house and all of his money.
