I work at CNET Networks. Our company has been plastered all over the news recently because it's the place where James Kim worked. James Kim, the guy who made the heroic attempt after he and his family got stuck in snow in Oregon for a week and lost his life.
Anyhow, I work in the Entertainment department with my focus mainly on GameSpot.com. Other properties I help out with are tv.com, mp3.com, and the recently launched FilmSpot (currently in Beta).
I am the senior producer of our departments video production team (commonly referred to as GameSpot Live on our website). I am basically responsible for managing our dev projects, big shows, researching technology, equipment, etc.
My office used to be known as "The Oven" because I had so much equipment running in here but most of that has been transitioned to other people so I could work on overlooking things and be focused on that. So now most of my work is done on my handy ole laptop, though I will be receiving a new Hi-Def editing machine in the next week. Or maybe I'll take my old one back because I loved the software I used on that and don't care to use Adobe Premiere Pro 2!
I have been here for almost 7 years. I started here when I was 20 and was the job I landed after I moved to San Francisco from Orlando, Florida. When I started here our department was maybe 20 people between all teams (editorial, production, design, etc) and now we take up a whole floor in our building and run 100-200 people. I've lost count!
It is a very stressful job that demands TOO many hours at some points (although in most cases we can take our work home and continue there, at least). It has allowed me to travel all over the world, although my hate for flying has returnd in the past few years so I've cut back on the traveling quite a bit. But for the most part, the job is a whole lot of fun. We get a lot of freedom when it comes to being creative, working on ideas, etc.
You all know what I do in the nightlife. Although working on that thing we call DJing...or digital DJing when it comes to me (Ableton Live). Still practicing with a mixer (thanks Ish!) these days and it certainly makes working with Ableton a bit different, mainly because of the sensitivity of the faders in certain areas compared to the faders within the Ableton software. I was so used to how it would react that when I started using a mixer with Ableton my transitions would sound wanky with the audio levels, lol. But getting the hang of it.
