ok this might be a real noob question for most of you but i recently just bought a virus ti and i cant seem to figure out how to save a midi clip and keep on making new ones with the keyboard. its like i make a basseline, riff, etc.. with the virus and then go to a new midi track and
when i select a patch it makes the old clip and the new clip the same sound


Hopefully someone understands what i mean,

I think what you want to look into is the actual programming of The Ti ... Example ... if you read abletons manual, there a section about clip envelopes, within that range you'll find "program" wich the nambur s range from zero to [I think ] 99 - you need to find out wich "program" is to what sound .... Hope this helps As I could only provide whats off the top of my head, If anyone else can fill in my gaps, please do !

you need to record your audio first? say you make a bassline... record your bassline into an audio channel... save that patch, then go to the next midi track with another audio channel.

the midi data that is sent to your TI is giong to be the same and will play whatever sound is present on your TI.

I have a few questions about the ti and ableton

1)In another post, someone mentioned that it is really difficult to set the ti up in ableton due to routing problems. I intend to connect it via usb and use it as a vst. Is it difficult?

2)As i would only have one ti (obviously ) does this mean that i need to bounce each track to audio before i can start working on a new sound. For example, I'm making a bass line with the ti, I then want to make a lead. Do i need to record bass line to audio first or can i save that bass sound as a patch in the ti, have a different sound for my lead and play both at the same time without recording to audio? If i do need to bounce everything to audio, can i use the freeze function in ableton to do this? This would be much better if i can.

3)I'm looking at getting the ti desktop. I would want to use my keyboard controller to trigger the sounds of the ti. Would I need to connect the two via a midi cable or would i use it the same as any softsynth vst?

4)Is there anything else i need to consider about purchasing a ti that I may not have thought about? I have windows xp, an maudio delta 44 soundcard, ableton 5 and a korg k25 midi controller.

Yeah thats what i figured all along but just wasnt sure how to do it correctly. im gonaa do a little more reading the manuals...lol

1.) nope, pretty simple

2.) yes, each track needs to be recorded seperatly... as far as i know(i only have a virus c) you need to record each instance on its own... thats how lifes always been

3.) if your controller is usb you can control it without midi cables but you will need midi cables from your desktop ti to your audio interface because how else will your TI recieve midi data... you want both in/s and outs going to your ti

4.) i think just about $2500 and your good to go!

your suspoused to be able to play 16 tracks at once tho? like the tutorial file.

So the ti cant receive midi data via the usb cable?

I have an m-audio delta 44 soundcard and as far as i'm aware it doesnt come with any midi ports. Only 4 x 1/4" jack ins and 4 x 1/4" jack outs.

Does this mean I need a new soundcard with midi ports? Or can I somehow connect my midi keyboard to the virus with a midi cable and send midi data that way? (Probably not when I think about it)

So do i need a new soundcard?

EDIT: Looking on dv247.com I've come across lots of usb/midi audio interface such as the one at this link.

2)This would replace my delta 44 soundcard. It says that its based on the same technology but its a bit cheaper. Is it an inferior soundcard (quality wise) or are you paying to have a breakout box in the delta 44?

you can play 16 tracks at once in a multi... i'm guessing you'd need to route each piece of the multi to a different channel to record. seems more trouble than its worth but if thats what you mean, then yes.

edit: just read chapter 5 of the virus ti manual and yes, you can play 16 sounds at once using a "multi" file but it does not list routing capabilities... so i don't think it can be done

you need a sound card with midi... , 1 in and 1 out will suffice. the virus also has unblanced outputs too... so you would need ATLEAST:

1 in/1out - midi
1 in(2xunbalanced)
1 out(whatever you need for your monitors, probably 2 x unbalanced)

i have an m-audio firewire 410... does the job

ummm no not in multi mode, in seq/usb/virus controll mode. it can play 16 channels at once.. even without sequencer mode i think hooked up like a regular Virus D your still suspoused to be able to use all 16 channels.. this is what me and my friend couldnt figure out in ableton. somehow the ableton tutorial file was able to do it, but we can't figure it out.

also ALL you need to hook a TI up is the power cable and USB cable, and yes you can use the USB cable just as a regular midi cable, you don't have to use it with the VSTi.
