Nord Lead 1 vs. Novation X-station

Guys, please help me out.

I have the choice of the following VA synths to choose from ( this would be my 3rd synth, meant for basslines and leads n maybe pads ).

1)Nord Lead 1 + Voice expansion
2)Novation X-station
3)ALesis Ion/Micron (not too keen though)
4)Roland JP 8080 ( But a little pricey in my country ).

I already have a microkontrol to control my softwares, so, this synth will solely be used to program leads.

Question : Which is worth it ? The Novation is a good idea, but i already have a V-station n a controller, the alesis micron looks good, but lacks of real control. the Nord seems like a classic, but its a little old. The JP is cool, but pricey n its a rack.

Which would you go for ? please do not suggest me the virus or Supernova or JP 8k. Thanks. Im having a tough time deciding.

Thank you guys.

Im wondering where you are considering buying these from??? I'm guessing 2nd hand as the JP hasn't been made for ages.. so why are you not considering buying from the states with the exchange rate as low as it is?

all of the things listed below are around the same price give or take $100 aussie dollars.. the Ion being the cheapest.

plus the JP does not need a voltage converter.. just use one of your computer power cables and pop it strieght in..

i have a nord lead 2 and a jp8000 and i must recommend the jp8080 as it has a much easier interface than the nord 2 which is kinda old.

and its a JP.

well if id choose the jp over the nord 2 that means id choose it over the nord 1.

go for the x station, if thats the one with the build in synth id recommend it

novations new line of synths are champion.

Don't dismiss the X station too fast. You can sell your other controller to offset the cost and it has a (KS engine) close to a Supernova II sound engine. This is more flexible than the V station which was built on the K and A stations. It is also a low latency audio and midi interface which should give you well under 10ms latency. It also make very fine 303 emulations, pads and leads, like the SN2. I own or have owned all of the synths you mentioned except the Nord 1. The X station would definitely be the most flexible, especially in the 49 or 61 key versions. Just don't buy it if you're expecting to make supersaws.

Ok, let me chime in:

AN1X is one of the best synths I ever came across. I have owned other synths, some as much as 10x more expensive than my an1x but I have yet to find another one that's as inspiring as yamaha. Maybe it is just me, but when I play it - songs just write themselves. The key feel on that synth is the best one in my rig and if you don't care for remotely controlling other synths, fuq it! It has crazy basses, weird leads, awesome pads, and just a joy to use! you have a 16 step sequencer and ARP, and it sounds LUSH! the saw on AN1x spanks JP on any given day.

Nord is thin, simple as that. It's got a really weird sound range that it's good for but it is mostly a one trick pony, imho. The only positive to Nord1+expansion is that you get Prophet 5 soundbanks (VA recreation) and they are pretty close to the original. The rest of the sounds, even tweaked yourself are limited and a bit primitive. If you're going for lo-tech, kinda dirty, primitive and "old school" sound, with some annoying hi-pitched leads, Nord1 is your weapon. No other synth can be as annoying as Nord.

The rest of the lot was explained by folks above.

Actually, call my unorthodox but you may want to get something like novation bass station, if you just want basses. But you can never go wrong with AN1x, if nothing else - for the key feel alone.

cheers!

X-Station

Id say get the X-Station. Ive used them a bit and think they are great. Good quality device and the built in syth is really bloody good like a k-station with more filter modes. Do you use reason? cause this is one of the best control surfaces for it, also has templates for a lot of different soft synths. Only problem is its monotimbral so the other synths win in that respenct.

lol... good descripton. I'd say if you want the nord sound, which is programmed right can be one of the hardest lead sounds out there... then get the nord. Although I think the x- station would offer more in terms of club trance versatility. Nord is more for psy leads...
