a mainboard question..........

I am gonna order the parts to my new rig in a few days, but i still havn't chosen my mainboard. I was lookin at an Epox 8kha+, but it only supports 4 IDE devices.... first of all, are there any better Asus or Aopen boards you may reccomend, and do any have support for 8IDE devices... im lookin at a minimum of 5 ATM and that kinda sucks to hafta boot one of my drives.

any help would be appreciated.

-Marc

[edit] is the KT266A chipset any better than the ALi M1647 chipset??? [/edit]

editgagain: oh, and if u wanna know, AMD Athlon XP 2000+

abit has a nice new mobo coming out the AT7

This is the link to the product website.. it has like EVERYTHING on-board and is -finally- legacy free

it supports a total of 12 IDE-devices (6 channels)

I personally dislike the Epox boards, but i know hardocp etc. love them.. i just know a couple of people with problems with epox boards..

anyhow, doesn't the '+' of 8kha+ denote that it has onboard raid? That would mean 4 channels = 8 devices, right?

good luck on choosing a mobo

the 8kha+ has 2 channels, with or without raid (the have either).. getting raid on a nice board would be a HUGE plus!

Is it me or are there more pc related questions on this board?
neway the Epox 8kha+ is a raid board the + on epox means raid (4 channel ide, HPT 370a raid controller) I have an epox 8k7a+ and it r0x0r. Don't get the 8kha+ as it is incompatible with geforce 4 graphics cards. Epox have a new board out 8k3a+ check out reviews of this, one here, I know a couple of people who use them and love em (one is the owner of a hardware review site!) prob. my next board . Just search around, read reviews of diff boards and make a decision for urself, atm I would reccomend looking for a board with VIA KT333 c/set, newer version of KT266A, which is a good c/set btw. Definitely look at Abit as well, they make gr8 boards, some ppl like Asus as well (I dont) but have a look at theirs as well.

Sorry if I sounded confusing, I meant 4 ide channels total, 2 standard plus the 2 on the raid controller
The 8kha being incompatible with gf4 sux, glad I didnt get 1, theres a couple of capacitors on the board that stop the gfx card from fitting
