Deliberation of Trance

I've been listening to trance for a myraid of years in my lifetime; probably since I was about 7 or so - now 18. My first CD was, "World of Trance Vol. 1". Followed by the Trancemaster collections and Gatecrasher Black/Red/Blue. Then I started listening to the notorious Tiesto.
His pure trance sets in 2000, playing the kind of tunes only euphoria would relate to: Sparkles, Escape From Nowhere, Silence, Synaesthesia, Walhalla, Silent Cry, Sixty Nine Ways and so on. Then in 2002, I brought a lot of the Goskitchen selections, also listening to Tiesto: playing tuens such as, Cafe Del Mar, Love Washes Over, Silver Bath, Save Me, U Write The Rules. But I also found that he was incorporating a lot of House and up and coming progressive trance, straying away from where he was. However, his Magik collection was filled with progressive so I guess he started early on. But as I was growing up, he was an uplifting DJ for me.
In 2003 and 2004, his style changed rapidly, playing tunes like Recreate by Hertz, Senorita, Phantazmz, El Toro, and Tribal Shock.
As I can see today, his style has lopsided, relating more to the genre of House/Electro/Progressive.
What I'm trying to discuss is the impact of House and its derivitives.
I started to DJ 3 years ago, but never went anywhere. I would Dj till the cows came home, everyday. Buying records from DJ DANJO, Vadim, Aly & Fila, Tiesto, Second Sun, Sundawner, ATN, Armin Van Buuren, PVD and so on, mainly uplifting trance. But as the underage scene sees trance these days through that Tricky Nation ****, I couldn't penetrate the House music barrier that was emerging, and the Electro that followed. Playing uplifting can only get you so far I guess, 8 wonders are still a great listen for it. But as I've seen, Ronski Speed wasn't well danced to @ TN. This genre of Tech-Trance and Progressive Tech seems to be taking over. SVD and Mac Zimms kind of stuff. That sharp, stomping Tech Trance. Tiesto in this case, has converted mainly to his Prog/House style, playing the odd Trance CD.
In conclusion, Armin van Buuren is one of the pack, playing what I love, using his status to keep it alive, or whats left of it.

These are just some thought out opinions i wanted to illustrate. Reply if you want to anything I've listed incorrectly.

peoples tastes change.....
its called evolution, i remember when marco v wasnt big because he played techtrance, now look at all the other names playing it....

people cant play out what isnt produced either, so if there are no big uplifting tracks made (probably because they wont sell) dj's/producers arent going to play/make them.

Also with the ronski thing, its been the same for years the e-tards arent going to dance to him because he isnt playing noise.

negative dude

u just gota think, the trance nations crowd is choc full of your majik entertainment fanboys n girls... these people (dont want to generalise here so sorry if i offend), seem to prefer the harder trance, typical shit papa smurf pumps out... this crowd, is also, choc full of muzteks and heavys... at the end of the day they are just following the crowd... do not be suprised by this, its just these people 'EXPECT' something harder at Trance Nation. If however, this was say armin only, they would most likely expect something not so hard, but more of an emmotionaly stimulated journey. You must understand, not everyone in the crowd is in the know... people like us understand alot more about trance than just ur standard punter.

Another example, is my thursday night... i went to watch erick morillo at QBH... great fkn dj by the way... now hes like one of the best house dj's on the planet, owns his own label and in general is just a fkn mad guy... now all these ******y melbourne "house" crowd rocked up expecting some fkn gay electro house fag fest... little did they know they were going to hear "real" house music and not just 8 hours of one small sub genre (electro house)... Why do they expect to hear this genre tho ? because its raped on the radios, and fed to them 24/7, electro electro electro electro... FUCK electro ! Melbourne and Sydney are overrun by supposed house Dj's that dont play diverse sets. I busted people in the crowd saying shit like "why is carl cox playing?", and "this isnt house man wtf". Nooobs ... then i went to the toilets n had a chat with some peeps and some true house fans were saying "yes this fkn rox im sik to death of shitty electro"...

my moral is, the crowd arent always in the know and are alot of the time just noobs that want to hear a rearranged version of a ministry of sound cd... pffff fk that... come check out a real party (interview) where the crowd is good, knows their music and you actually hear good quality choons of multiple EDM genres

oh and ronski fkn rocked

You've proved a great point, only in other words of a different context of what I have already said. You know most people who attend a night like TN, are illiterate to music. Papa always delivers with that mainstream Jesselyn Cr*p. I mean, look @ PVD's new remix of JT's "What comes around goes around". Bit askew, but hey, the electro/house sound seems to sell. I mean, even Ferry Corsten has made his own Electro Trance genre.
You benefit from knowing multiple genres, like a lot of people do also, but you can't expect nights to be filled with EDM know it alls.

By the way, just a small question. Ronksi Speed plays mostly uplfiting, as I've heard in his radio sets and live sets; Why would Magik want him @ TN then if you say they EXPECT something harder? Just your own opinion.

Thats just a generalisation.

Maybe some of the punters expect something HARDER, but they sure aint gunna get it (if they are looking for the real hard stuff then NO they wont).

I wish I heard quality hard trance out these days!

Armin will bang it out!
Im expecting quality trance with tough driving basslines, especially mid-end of his set!
He better deliver

ummm, well i think Majik and Papa feed the crowd what they usually play, but the actuall people behind the scenes are just like us, trance addicts

over the past year who have majik brought down... from memory Alex Morph (even tho he didnt show), StoneFace & Terminal, Johan Gielen, Marcel Woods, Ronski, Bossi from Cosmic

Gielen is a trance god!

But seriously thats a very broad selection... uplifting, techtrance, melodic, deep and hard trance... regardless of what the crowd wants, its also the responsibility of people that run these big events to expose crowds to new things so they dont get sick of the same old stuff

i was really please to see ferry at the end of future... it showed some of the younger ones that yes, ever seasoned pros grew up in an era of trance and possibly opened eyes to new things... i thought it was great

armins next on the list, and possibly PVD towards the end of 07

are u fkn serious ? you would hire 2 big name german djs, pay for them, bring them down to oz, and then give them early time slots, while local djs pump it out at prime time sets ? LOL

im sorry man, but its called "trance nation" not "HARD TRANCE NATION"... theres a pretty massive difference between 138 BPM and 145 BPM.

charlie zee is fkn awesome dun get me wrong, but that order of lineup would be stupid... and would possibly empty out the place earlier

I'd be preeeetty damn offended to come all the way down here to warm up for the local DJ's.. you just can't have the headliners opening up your nite, it don't make sense to have your crowd come in just for the start of the nite..

imo Armin will blow us away. He'll be so uplifing, so deep, so tecky and so bangin all in his own time.. he's got 6 hours to show us just how much of a master he is..

So excited I dunno if I'll be able to keep my pants on!!
