DJ Metatron vs MoN-SooN - Verdant Symbiosis [progressive]

(right-click, save as)

Here it is, our baby, lol. Me and MoN-SooN have a lot in common as DJs. We can really identify with each other's styles and just seem to focus on similar areas of building mixes. When he mentioned we do a collab together I immediately thought to myself "Why hadn't I thought of this before?" I was incredibly flattered by his idea and it was an honorable experience. MoN-SooN is a DJ I greatly respect.

So here we decided to try to come together and really focus on a theme and progression which would cause the mix to stand out. We decided on having an organic type feel with clean melodies and dirty basslines. I remember discussing the idea with MoN-SooN initially and having a picture in my head and as soon as it had resolved MoN-SooN send me the beautiful picture above and I was astounded. It was exactly as I had imagined. We were truely on the same wavelength with this.

The mix starts out light with impending melodies. The second track, Striped Flower, is one that had actually birthed my inspiration and theres a funny story about it. We sent eachother about 10 tracks each to get opinions on the types of tracks we were thinking of using and MoN-SooN said he really didn't like it (among others I had chosen, lol). I agreed with most of his comments but this track was in my mind brilliant and would be evident in the mix so I told him to just trust me on it. As we progressed through the mix MoN-SooN said that the track was growing on him and by the end he was saying that it was one of his favorites in the whole mix and wouldn't shut up about it. LOL!

Heh, I digress, after that hits some dirty, housey tracks which sets a precedent for the buzzing electro-style sound we wanted to have throughout. I realize that sound is somewhat overdone to some people, but in my opinion it really is a staple of dance music.

Then we progress into progressive trance, uplifting and tech. Some highlight tracks for me are: Heatbeat - Another Loud Thought, San & Sebastian Moore - Night Eyes (Niklas Harding pres. Blackout Remix), Tenthu - Stay Away (Original Mix), 4 Strings - The Silmarillia (Leon Bolier Remix) and Bart Claessen - When Morning Comes (Bart Claessen Rework). Silmarillian is another track that really encompases the theme we were going for.

Very nice, I really liked the flow of this mix. The transitions were tight, good EQ:ing. My favourite part of the mix has to be the beginning though. Simon & Shaker - Zero is one of my favourite tunes and I have to agree that "Chris Lake & Sebastien Leger - Striped Flower (Original Mix)" is a very good tune.

The only negative thing I have to say is that I think I heard some clipping in the mix, tunes 5 and 9. It could have been my crappy headphones I used while listening to it though. All in all, as I
wrote in the beginning, very NICE!

Not much to add after Jason's opening post...

First of all, many thanks to Jason. It was a pleasure to cooperate. We both communicate on the same wavelength, so the way from the idea to final release was quick and smooth. The theme clarified in our minds pretty soon and the couplings we had were corresponding. All these abstract discussions were sick and funny at a time (especially when drunk ). In the meantime it turned out we have many things in common I'm very excited about the effort we put into this. I think we both learnt a lot one from another.

As for the mix itself, it is pretty varied IMO. It was a challenge to combine progressive house, electro house, progressive trance, uplifting trance and tech trance. The organic feel is a binder and is present throughout the mix. Deep sounds picture unpredictable nature. Enormous trees in rain forest secret terrible forces and so on

And my 2 cents about the tracks. Striped Flower and Silimarillia are probably the most important tracks in the mix. Besides that I like Another Loud Thought very much. An awesome entrance of Heatbeat with his first single.

Grab it and enjoy!

PS. DanielD: I can't hear any clipping, it must have been your headset

It's good seeing DJs come together to work on a project. It's not something you see often.

I must say the end product of this union is enjoyable. Nice work on track selection and formation. I'm really liking the first half of this 'baby'. Good job guys.
