Tiesto Elements of Life Tour in London -REVIEW- PLEASE READ IF THERE OR PLANNING 2 GO

Hello,
I went to the Tiesto Concert at Alexandra Palace on Friday and would like to know the thoughts of other people who went, these are mine..

production - i thought the sound was perfect, spot on usually at these events its way too loud and horrible (gatecrasher at NEC for example) but no the sound was great, Visuals - horrible, half the night it had some guy and old woman in grey underwear it just didnt work, the visuals we're really bad not a patch on the ID&T production of the concerts etc. that was probably the biggest let down, the setup was great with a MASSIVE screen for visuals, but they just put cheap poorly done visuals on it. Lasers - they hardly ever used the amazing lasers they had they should have used them lots more.. they blatently saved all the production for the tiesto album tracks, it was a blatent promotional routine where tiesto would play a dull track just before dropping one of his new album tracks then bang he drops the new album track and all these lasers and smoke machines come ouf of nowhere so that moment gets a great reaction from the crowd and makes you wanna go out and buy the album, maybe I've just been in this industry too long and seen it all but it was very blatent and done in a selfish way, for the money the crowd paid for entry to this event they deserved a full production all night not just for the Tiesto tracks!

getting in - please take note if your going to one of these events and think your have no problem coz you have a 'VIP' ticket, I had a VIP ticket and still had to queue for over an hour! I walked past the biggest queue I've ever seen at 11pm for the people with normal tickets.. they must have been in line for 2 to 3 hours to get in! Maybe it was just really bad organisation from Alexandra Palace in London but it was a shambles, i felt so sorry for the people who had to wait in the cold for so long. I'm sure most of them missed the start of Tiestos set even though they got there well in advance! not good enough from a venue as established as that with only 1 entrance!

the bar - alexandra palace really made it clear they don't give a damn about there public, firstly they cut a deal with WKD so every bar was a WKD bar so there was NO OTHER DRINKS it was that or bear, nothing else!! so you might think okay the venue is clearly taking lots of money for this exclusive deal from WKD so maybe they would do it for the benefit of the customer and them? Nope. £4 a bottle!!!! what a joke, ridiclious prices at the bar!

the vip area - good but terrible DJ playing, sure it had to be something different from the main room but it was really boring wierd bongogo style music, not for me personally and it was so loud you couldnt relax because you couldnt get away from the music.

live performances - christian burns 10 out of 10 amazing, Jes was good to but a bit dodgy on the first song. Only caught 2 live performances but there may have been more that I missed.

Overall I had a good time, but an hour to get in and £4 a drink with hardly any production apart from Tiestos tracks means I wouldnt go again. Tiesto played an amazing set though and I had some serious religious moments in the 'Sound of Tiesto' Element of the night, happy days

I pretty much agree with everything you've said there. I arrived at Alexandra Palace at around 9:45 and got in about 11:15. This was queueing normally. The queue just got bigger behind me though.

When I got in there Jes was on stage. I thought she sounded really good at this point, but when she came on during Tiesto's set I thought she sounded awful.

The Virtual Tiesto 3D animation thing was cringeworthy, but I assume it's a bit of a tongue in cheek thing anyway. Bloody acrobatics on his six CDJs indeed.

The drinks like you say, we a joke though, I wasn't planning on having any alcohol as I didn't really see the point, I wasn't exactly going to get pissed (not at that price anyway) so I thought I'd buy a bottle of something, and then just refill it with water. So I forked out £2 for a bottle of 7up (should have been £2.50 but the girl hadn't read her price list properly, bonus!) and just kept hold the of the bottle. The only problem was, when going to the toilet, I found that the only water available was boiling hot. Call me tight if you want, but when you're in a gig for 7-odd hours, and dancing for most of it, sometimes you just want some water, and charging you £2.50 for the privilege is a complete joke.
Isn't it actually against the law to provide free water on tap?

I'd imagine there were a fair few people popping pills there aswell, and while they can't condone it, they should be providing water and stuff to help people get through it without... dying.

I guess if I'd have kicked up enough of a fuss I could have found some free water, but still.

The two quid Calippo I had from the ice cream van went down a treat at half 5 in the morning though!

Moving on, I do agree that the sound was perfect. It seemed damn loud, but still good enough to talk to people on the dancefloor. The bass was awesome aswell at some points.
The cool thing was that my ears weren't ringing at all afterwards (although I didn't go to bed until midnight on Saturday night and spent all of Saturday watching racing cars at Donington, and I only notice my ears ringing when it becomes silent), I think this is due to the quality of sound. You only get ringing ears if the quality is bad, is that true?

Those projections were pretty poor yeah, I thought they were going to be different for each element, those people got pretty annoying after a while, though I did giggle at the nipple slip!

The lasers were pretty cool, I was hoping they would be after Global Gathering's shocking attempt. They still weren't up to the quality of the Tiesto In Concert 2004 DVD though!

The other live performance you missed was Julie Thompson:

14.Tiësto - Do You Feel Me (Live Vocals Performed By Julie Thompson)
15.Holden & Thompson - Nothing (93 Returning Mix) (Live Vocals Performed By Julie Thompson)

She sounded ok, but she really butchered Holden & Thompson's "Nothing" but I love the kinda jittery vocals on the original, and that's not something you can really re-create live, so I understand that.

The sound of Tiesto bit was fairly epic, Silence straight into Suburban Train was just mad. I loved it.

To be honest, the positives outweigh the negatives, I had a really good night, I'd probably do it again.
