I pretty much agree with everything you've said there. I arrived at Alexandra Palace at around 9:45 and got in about 11:15. This was queueing normally. The queue just got bigger behind me though.
When I got in there Jes was on stage. I thought she sounded really good at this point, but when she came on during Tiesto's set I thought she sounded awful.
The Virtual Tiesto 3D animation thing was cringeworthy, but I assume it's a bit of a tongue in cheek thing anyway. Bloody acrobatics on his six CDJs indeed.
The drinks like you say, we a joke though, I wasn't planning on having any alcohol as I didn't really see the point, I wasn't exactly going to get pissed (not at that price anyway) so I thought I'd buy a bottle of something, and then just refill it with water. So I forked out £2 for a bottle of 7up (should have been £2.50 but the girl hadn't read her price list properly, bonus!) and just kept hold the of the bottle. The only problem was, when going to the toilet, I found that the only water available was boiling hot. Call me tight if you want, but when you're in a gig for 7-odd hours, and dancing for most of it, sometimes you just want some water, and charging you £2.50 for the privilege is a complete joke.
Isn't it actually against the law to provide free water on tap?
I'd imagine there were a fair few people popping pills there aswell, and while they can't condone it, they should be providing water and stuff to help people get through it without... dying.
I guess if I'd have kicked up enough of a fuss I could have found some free water, but still.
The two quid Calippo I had from the ice cream van went down a treat at half 5 in the morning though!
Moving on, I do agree that the sound was perfect. It seemed damn loud, but still good enough to talk to people on the dancefloor. The bass was awesome aswell at some points.
The cool thing was that my ears weren't ringing at all afterwards (although I didn't go to bed until midnight on Saturday night and spent all of Saturday watching racing cars at Donington, and I only notice my ears ringing when it becomes silent), I think this is due to the quality of sound. You only get ringing ears if the quality is bad, is that true?
Those projections were pretty poor yeah, I thought they were going to be different for each element, those people got pretty annoying after a while, though I did giggle at the nipple slip!
The lasers were pretty cool, I was hoping they would be after Global Gathering's shocking attempt. They still weren't up to the quality of the Tiesto In Concert 2004 DVD though!
The other live performance you missed was Julie Thompson:
14.Tiësto - Do You Feel Me (Live Vocals Performed By Julie Thompson)
15.Holden & Thompson - Nothing (93 Returning Mix) (Live Vocals Performed By Julie Thompson)
She sounded ok, but she really butchered Holden & Thompson's "Nothing" but I love the kinda jittery vocals on the original, and that's not something you can really re-create live, so I understand that.
The sound of Tiesto bit was fairly epic, Silence straight into Suburban Train was just mad. I loved it.
To be honest, the positives outweigh the negatives, I had a really good night, I'd probably do it again.
