Finity Recordings is an electronic dance label founded in May 2005, featuring cutting edge trance and progressive. Finity focuses on looking for fresh trance & dance music, and the label mainly aims to help the up and coming Finnish trance talents to pave their way into the international dance music market.
Jussi Polet completes the fifth installment under Finity Digital with his "Memory Reflect EP". Jussi has seen a number of releases over the last few years, the most notable being his remix of Recluse "Emotional Void" and his release on Danceteria entitled "Positive". Let's take a further look on his latest offering.
Live Love Die
Starting out with a dark airy vibe, Live Love Die slowly builds with fading melodies and a dark driving bass. Plucks, pads and FX sweeps throughout the introduction sound pretty solid. The airy lead sequence is definitely the highlight as the track makes slowly its way into the breakdown. A guitar riff emerges in the breakdown, which sounds rather impressive. Holding your attention, the guitar stands firm whilst the track slowly builds up strength. The track emerges into the chorus, featuring plucks and sweeps much like it had in the introduction. The guitar re-emerges and is followed by the airy lead sequence from the beginning. In essence an emotional track with a dark edge, definitely a great start to the EP.
Two Seas Apart
Two Seas Apart starts out with a funky percussion riff, giving it a bit of an energetic drive. Very quickly but seamlessly a pluck sequence fade in along with a lush pad. Arps and a bassline also emerge as the plucks fade in and out. The chord progression also emerges seamlessly, followed by a squelchy lead. The breakdown features massive pads and a deep guitar riff. Absolutely beautiful. The chorus emerges with building percussion and FX, which seems to be a trend of Jussi's. The chorus boasts that squelchy but superb lead sequence and the guitar, backed by the huge pads. The most impressive features of this track are its seamless transitions and overall pure and uplifting atmosphere.
The Starchaser
This time around the track takes much longer to build up steam, only starting with a minimal percussion riff and delayed FX and blips. Once the bassline emerges the percussion slowly starts to build and so do the melodic aspects. Sine blips and pads make their way in, along with a filtering sequence. The breakdown features a few unique pads and the delayed blips from earlier on. After the lead sequence fades in and out, the chorus kicks in almost unexpectedly. It features just about all of the aspects from earlier on along with the lead from the breakdown and perhaps richer pads. Once again Jussi puts together a very emotional and driving piece of trance.
Midsummer Night
Midsummer Night is easily the most progressive and chilled of the four, featuring a chunky perc line and a bouncey bassline. A mysterious blip lead, plucks, guitar licks and an odd vox sequence lead the way into the breakdown. The guitar licks come into play during the break, backed by filtering bass. The percussion starts to build up as the mysterious lead from the intro makes its way in. The chord progression featured in the chorus is rather nice, complimenting the blips and the vocal sequence. A very uplifting yet reserved track, showing that Jussi can get the job done on alternate fronts and not just standard uplifting trance.
Conclusion
All four tracks are equally well written and produced, thus it's too hard to decide which is the strongest. Jussi's strongest traits seem to be those uplifting pads and smoother than smooth transitions. I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more from Jussi in the future. 4/5
