Just think of it as more than one physical processor. The only difference is that the cores are on one die instead of their own.

I have the Intel quad core and Windows see's it as four seperate proc's.

Does anyone know when Apple with be upgrading their MacBook Pro line with Quad or more cores? I'm in the market for one by the end of the summer and I was curious.

My best bet is that there will be MBP updates announced at or near WWDC this summer. Quad core though? I'm not so sure about that. Are there any quad core laptops on the market yet? I know that Apple won't push it out until they can get it to be VERY power-efficient.

basically, afaik, nothing is different unless the software sees it differently. even very few cutting edge games were devd from the ground as working with multiprocessors. windows was certainly not.

tomshardware.com has a comparison calculator where you choose your CPU and which tool or game you want to compare the CPU in.

but no, there isnt a simple multiplier like 2.66x2 = 5 as far as i know.

Not really but close, I read review recently that presented latest quad core processor as 13 times faster than 1GHZ processor from 2001. Bottom line is that more cores is better as it allows computer to work on many different things and not choke by doing so. It may not be fast always but it should never choke as single core processor are prone to so you definitelly want 2 core processor or the latest 4 core processor if you can afford it

The biggest difference you would noticed while using a Core 2 Duo CPU is that fact that you can multi task better. On a single core when you multi task, Some of the applications you would use would run slow. When using a Core 2 Duo, You will be able to run more then one app without the system slowing down.
