I've heard a lot of praise for the Samsung sets. Any recommendations?

Looks like a solid TV. Does all the imporant input resolutions, good contrast, and good brightness. Even plays NTSC video in PAL mode, which I think is a cool feature, especially if you download a lot of movies.
I absolutely love Samsung TVs. The fact that Sony rebrands the Samsungs they buy, as original Sony's, is amazing in itself.
The only thing I cannot find is the response time. If you play a lot of games, you really want to make sure you get an LCD with the lowest possible response time.

This HDTV has a native resolution of 1366x768. That means that the 720p content will upconvert to 1366x768 to fill the whole screen. Any content thats in 1080i will downconvert to 1366x768 as well.

If you use a regular computer in the bedroom also consider a bigger LCD monitor, and get a TV card for the computer. I just got a Samsung 22" 206BW, excellent color and no ghosting. Great on DVDs on the PC, equal to most LCD TVs and better than tube TVs.
I have an ATI TV Wonder (for regular TV, not HDTV) in my computer that works OK with a satellite TV box or cable TV signal but for those inputs an LCD TV would have a better picture.

I would shell in a few more quids for the Philips. They have a solid reputation for top notch picture quality and serious lifespan. Still, the Samsung is very cool
