DJ Hype ..::.. Good or Bad.

How much hype does a dj deserve if he is good? How much hype is good for a good dj? Can too much hype kill the mood for a party? and/or perhaps get to the Dj's head?

Hmmmm

Lately i have seen too many people praise their fav Djs to a point where it makes me sick. I mean yea being excited to see your favourite dj come to town 50 times a year is all good but is it really important to send mass text messages and start threads on TA and make facebook groups and invite the whole world. One might say " oh the thread is made to let people know" well umm alot of us, actually all of us i think know about the event section.
Or some might also say that the certain dj is just so good he/she deserves all the hype. This is where it gets a bit tricky i think.

Giving alot of hype to a certain artist can or perhaps does result in poor performances from such artists i think. These artists know regardless how they perform they have much hype sorrunding them and they can do whatever they please. Which is ofcourse totally wrong. It may not happen right away but sooner or later a time will come where your favourite dj won't be so favourite because you and 500 hundred like you whored the dj to death. There should be a balance of being excited about seeing a certain artist perform and then being totally abnoxious about it.
Oh and dont even get me started on "oh i have him on MSN" or "i got his number on speed dial" like give me a break. I have seen guys try to pick up chicks just because they have a certain dj's fake number. LAME.

So what do you guys think about this? Is too much hype good or bad ... or there is no such thing as too much hype.

/rant

i think ur spot on tyler. its been happening quite a bit in the last little while. which ever DJ comes, there will always be a few people on here who will cream their pants and go wild almost to the point where you're like, are they for real?

i think there is a certain time and place for this. definetly keeping it all in one thread and if it belongs in the event section then put it in there.

honestly, if u have the dj on msn or w/e doesnt mean shit. you think ur the only one? plz.

I get pretty hyped about a night as whole, which includes friends (mostly people I havnt seen in a while) and my favourite DJ's. Not crazed hype, but I do get pretty excited sometimes.

I think that hype and worship are two different things.

Should people hype up a party, yes. It gets everybody in the mood, and good moods are infectious. If everyone was lukewarm about going to see a certain performer, then I think there would be less of an atmosphere.

I do, however, agree that it can get way to over the top. Being excited is one thing, worshiping an artist is another. Glorifying your heroes to the point where other people's opinions offend you is kind of pushing it. If I thought the performer last night was terrible, mixing was bad, and track selection poor - and you jump all over my post saying "omg wtf bbq it was 'dj x' you obviously don't know anything about music" etc, that's going too far.

Its all about balance. Have your heroes and appreciate the music, but don't force your passions down someone else's throat.

LOL. I thought this was what the thread about was too. I was like, WTF? Tyler listening to dnb? LOL

But back to topic on hand.
I do dislike irrational worshipping of DJs, to the point that no logical argument gets through these crazy fans.
If your fav DJ was shit, then say so. The world isn't going to collapse just because your fav DJ had one bad performance

Thats what I thought the thread was about when I first read the title.

There is too much whoring going on in Toronto...especially with TOTAs....its great to be excited about an event but the whoring is making me want to vomit all over my computer.

I agree with you Tyler....it seems like every day somebody is starting a thread about some DJ coming to town in three months. When Tiesto or Armin are coming to town I don't even want to come on TA because it starts to smell like an hourly hotel.

People think I hate Armin and Tiesto...which isn't the case....I hate the whoring....remember...when it comes right down to it....a DJ spins music....they don't cure diseases.

The only DJ Hype I could possibly understand is for a DJ that has either

a. Never been to Toronto before or
b. Has been more then 3 years since the DJ has been here.

The hype over DJs that are here on a yearly or quarterly bases is just retarded.
