The picture does look like it has slightly different knobs though.

Considering the one on agi's site is based off actual photos, I think that's the one you are likely to wind up with.

Im gonna have to post a noob question and ask why do people like switching from faders to rotary? Is there any specific reason, how does it make a major difference in your mixing style?

seriously it's much easier to mix smoothly with rotaries IMO at least. i would never consider a mixer with faders anymore. i've never liked faders of any kind though, so this could be kind of a personal preference.

I would opt for rotary on my 800, but for one drawback......

You can't cut with them - otherwise I'd go for the upgrade.

it depends what you want to do with it really. i've used it to bring in tracks at points where the beat starts after a breakdown for example. i turn the rotary to about 3 o'clock and turn the tune that's playing down a little while i bring the next track in with the line/phono switch. i've used this technique in a few of my mixes and if done right it sounds pretty good (IMO at least). on my last mix for example everyone who i've asked about it haven't noticed when i brought the last track in for the first time so that it is audible. none of them are djs though and most don't really know much about edm. but like i said, IMO at least it can sound good.

on a similiar tangent...i want to remove my 800's crossfader. i know it has screws and you could just pull it right out but i dont recall there being a a cover peice that came with my djm800. anyone know about this?

btw i'm also in the market for the rotary kit...anyone with one installed on the djm800 care to offer their opinion?

I've installed the rotary on the djm3000, very easy to do yourself. I certainly prefer the rotary action, but the curve on the 3000 is awful. 90% of volume control is between 8 and 10, not linear at all. Is the 800's rotary better in that regard?
