Mono Samples

I just noticed alot of my samples I have downloaded are in mono ? Is this suppose to be correct? Like my 808 kit for example. The bass are mono. The snares are mono. The high/cymbals are in mono. I then go and look at random other samples I have downloaded and some of the snares / highs are in stereo? Is there a right and wrong way are something with samples? Am I correct in assuing most bass like kicks/808 sub bass should be in mono? Snares and other stuff should be stereo right? I really have no idea. I have been using this 808 kit for a while now so that means all my snares / highs / bass have all been in mono lol. My synth riffs have all been stereo. Maby this is why its so hard to get everything to blend right?

Usually everything is recorded in mono and the stereo width of the mix is created by panning invidual elements. This way it has been done since the Beatles and is still done, so mono samples have nothing to do with not getting things to blend right. That comes down to you as a producer.

Ok cool. Thats what I have been doing. I usually have been panning whatever I want panned. But leave the bass / snare in the middle. I usually get 2 types of highs and pan one left and the other right. I have been adding stereo tracks in cubase and mono ones for bass so I thought the samples would be canceling that out or something. I guess it doesnt matter.
