sm44 - Louvre [Trance]

Hey guys
This is the first song ive really thought was good enough to post up here. Its still needs a few tweaks and effects though. This is just a small part of the song

the mastering and that is pretty bad because it is not my strong point
but i think the rest is pretty good.

Dont really know what genre to put it in but probably closest to prog trance.

Any feedback positive or negative especially to do with compression, eqing, synths, etc much appreciated

Enjoy

sm44 - Louvre

ill give you a review if you check out my track! (in sig!)

hehe jk...

So what did you make this with?

What i did was bascially just comment as i listened to it, so read these comments sequentially, like if you were listening to the track

So far i like the synth, very clean... sounds like you knew what you were going for

I think i know what you were trying to do between 48secs and 1:10 seconds, but for me that just seems like it takes a long time to build up to the bass and melody.

that melody around 1:52 i love... just love... i love it even more now the more i listen

sounds really clean around 2:17...

builds up quite nicely...

drums mix in very nicely.

After that i think it can just go more places. You got a great start, IMO, it just needs to travel to more distant lands, go beyond the local scope. Build that melody up to something extra, chord change perhaps.

good job though.

You have nice melodies going on there.

You could probably put this under any category you like but at the moment the sounds themselves need a log of work.

I would seriously revise the synths you are using as at this moment in time it makes it sounds like a retro computer game in the same ilk as Sega 16bit or something.

As I said the musical composition itself is pleasing to the ear but you need to develop your use of sounds in my opinion.

Cheers
Nem

Wow, melodies are very nice in this. Great job on that!

The synth at 1:38 seemed a bit thin. Maybe try layering it with another sound? Don't worry to much about the sound thing though - just keep practising and experimenting with sounds and it'll come with time.

All in all though, I enjoyed it. I agree with Glengie that the melody needs to progress later in the song. But good job, and keep it up!

Can I have a MIDI please?

Hey mate, definitely sounds nice, but yeah the synths are all a bit simple and the perc samples are quite thin as well etc. I really like all the melody layers, they come together nicely.

At the 28 second mark it sounds like the bassline is clipping, or at least pushing the compressor really hard. This corresponds to when the kick is not playing.

keep working on it, it's a good basis!

Oh yes, the melodies are awesome! But I agree with the others, the main synth could sounds better. Anyway, it sounds really promising! Keep working!
