There's actually 2 "remakes" of Calabria, one of them is from Alex Gaudino which is actually a mashup of 'Destination Unknown' and 'Calabria. The other one, by Enur is just... a plain remix. I think.

Listen, there's the Original Mix (the best by far as far as i'm concerned), then there's Drunkenmunky's (a disgrace), and that Destination Thingie (don't really know about that) and the gay one with vocals called ENUR feat. Natasha - Calabria 2006...hell there's probably more, but can't be arsed...didn't Katana use the sample sometime ago?

Moving on, i think the answer to the first question is quite simple though; it's catchy as hell.
