You know how you can tell how ASS BACKWARDS people's priorities in life are? Just say hello, wave, or smile politely at random people walking down the street, and see their reaction.

My buddy and I were out enjoying the sun on his front porch the other day and we gave friendly greetings to all who passed. How many of those people do you think smiled or waved, or said hello back? Not many. In fact, most of them seemed shocked, appalled, or offended!!

There's something wrong with people when a simple friendly hello from their fellow man is offensive!!

I have recentle moved into a new apartment. The next door neighbour is constantly fighting with his girlfriend day and night. He's constantly locking her out the flat and I hear her kicking the front door at 2am. Then they argue some more while i try to get to sleep.

Apart from that, they are lovely people.

So true. I've actually refrained from saying hello to the majority of so called 'friends' in Dundee anymore, because of the offended reaction i get from them. It's like I've just shot their dog.

I don't mean to sound pessimistic, because I DO believe in the greater good. It's just disappointing to see so many people blinded by whatever bullshit they've decided to get themselves caught up in.

If shes hot, invite her in!!

My neighbourhood is good. I'll walk down the street and if its quiet i say hi to everyone...most are taken aback by it for a few seconds but they always reply

perhaps the way you BELIEVE in a greater good, isn't exactly how everyone else believes in seeing the greater good in each other. i learned that disappointment comes from expectations and im not saying its 'bad' to expect people to be kind-hearted and naturally for the 'greater good', just the harsh reality (common knowledge) is that people don't have time to find out about other peoples lives or care to stop and simply return a greeting without thinking/expecting that they want something in return. As fucked as it sounds, it's the truth so yes common knowledge isn't so common but in a fucked up way it's understood ya know

lol. my friends at dundee uni and she got pushed down some stairs by some ned the other week for no reason.

it also reminds me of that couple on father ted, you know which one i mean who're always fighting until ted shows up.

Anyway. my town is fairly friendly, most people will talk

my street i even know most ppl and we've been here 10 months. lets see

attached to us: couple in late 20s, 2 kids (he has an older one from another relationship too) always talk

next to them, old lady, collie dog, lovely and friendly.

Across road. woman in her 50s or 60s, always friendly

next door - couple, he's retired, shes still working, loud dog, grown up kids, grandkids etc, can end up talking for 2 hours in a go if you're not careful.

next to that, couple with teenage son, and older kids who're 30ish who dont live in

next to that, the welfare family. look like thieves but still friendly. I just wouldn't turn my back on them.

next to that old old lady, she looks 90 but shes friendly enough

and next to that my brothers mate from school who used to also live on the old street we did (but moved twice) and then moved into this one just before we did, kinda creepy.

next to that, bloke with HUGE SUV/Camper type truck, I think it's an umm big american brand. we just laugh at how much gas it must take him to get to the shops and back cos he cba to walk.

And in town most people will talk, or at least smile. Some are ignorant but it's not bad. next town over its hard to hear an english accent though, much bigger and multicultural. I guess it's what happens when you live fairly rural though (whole town here which is like 6 communities has 35000 ppl)

In my neighbourhood....
Mrs. Hazard and will take Canine Hazard for a walk, which should take 30 minutes but will normally take 45-50 due to the conversations we end up in with various people we will meet enroute (say 3-4 short conversations per walk).
There is a man on our walking route who just finished fixing up an early 80s Ferrari GTO... when I mentioned to him that it has long since been my dream car he took me for a spin... even let me drive it.
My neighbour's children play in my back yard.
At least once a week someone from our street will walk across the backyards and invite everyone to their house for drinks.
When I built a deck in my backyard a couple of weeks ago neighbours showed up with tools to see if they could help, others popped by to see how it was going.
When my fence (decorative on the front lawn) was vandalized a month ago a passerby picked up the boards that had been removed and placed them by my front door.

My neighbourhood is like something out of 1950s suburbia... I love it.

Nah I don't have expectations of people, that's not what I meant. I would have stopped smiling and waving a long time ago if that's how I thought.
