Upside down monitors

Is it ok to place your monitors upside down (tweeter at the bottom) if the woofer and tweeter are both in line on the face of the speaker? The phase alignment should only change if theyre turned horizontally... I think!

I can't imagine that they would be designed to sit like that. If the woofer is above the tweeter then the vibrations that bounce back from the desk could damage your tweeter.

More to the point....why

So I can have my speakers above my computer screens and still have the tweeters at ear level.

Good point on the vibrations though. I don't want to risk that!

Remember that most speakers will also internally be setup to stand in one position so that the supports are there. I doubt that the tops of speakers have any structural support whatsoever so I would definitely advise you not to do it.

I don't have any specific data to back it up but I'm just looking at it from a common sense point of view.

I think you need a stand or a new desk

Yea there you go, but those are actually designed for such a purpose. I don't many normal monitors are.

Hell, you could always email the company and ask their techs.

the only issue will be with internal heatsinking not working to an optimum, but i doubt this will be an issue to get concerned about. sound will not be affected in a detrimental way at all and its worth flipping them over if it allows you to position the speakers at the right height. imo i would have them set up so the center point between the tweeter and the woofer is in level with your ear.

alternatively you could look at new monitors that utilise a single point source... then placement worries are only an issue with one driver.. no particular manufacturers mentioned! hehehe
