New toys for a semi-ish old boy...kinda thing...yeah

Well it's my birthday and none of you scrooges bought me a ladyboy! (Thailand ain't that far away y'know!). So I took a stroll down to soundcontrol in Norwich. I entered. Suddenly one of the more superior looking shop assistants clicked his fingers and a red carpet was rolled out in front of me. I looked at his name badge.... hmmm what a strange way to spell Darren i thought as i awoke outside the shop with Cubase 4 and a pair of Beyerdynamic 990 pros. in my bag.

Maybe Sennheiser 280s - they're a closed back. Anything open won't get the bass boost from a sealed can.

I am pleased overall with the 990's they sound a tiny bit harsh at the moment. but guess they need running in.

If you are after bass(and just bass), try the Sennheiser HD200. For £35 they are very good value imo and comfortable to wear for long periods. I have been using mine for around 2 years now.

They're not detailed enough in the bass region, imo. I own both the Sennheiser 280s and AKG k240s.
I prefer the AKGs for monitoring when I can't use my monitors. I do A/B on the Sennheisers though.

i have AKG 171's and they are also really minimal in bass response and they are semi open cans. obviously if you can get good bass sound out of these they sound absurdly awesome on a regular system.

bass is one of those things that needs room to breathe, i wouldn't try a closed pair of cans

That's true.
Have a listen to the AKG k240s if you can, I like them alot. And they don't squeeze my head like the HD280s do, Ouch!
Actually, sometimes I forget that I have them on, and they end up flying off my head when I stand up from the chair.
