Iran parliament backs porn death penalty

Most Iranians don't even remember the revolution or the 1980's war. Seems like the vices of the west aren't exactly only in the west.

Iran parliament backs porn death penalty By NASSER KARIMI, Associated Press Writer

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's parliament on Wednesday voted in favor of a bill that could lead to the death penalty for persons convicted of working in the production of pornographic movies.

In a 148-5 vote, lawmakers approved a measure saying "producers of pornographic works and main elements in their production are considered corruptors of the world and could be sentenced to punishment as corruptors of the world."

The term, "corruptor of the world" is taken from the Quran, the Muslim holy book, and ranks among the highest on the scale of an individual's criminal offenses. Under Iran's Islamic Penal Code, it carries a death penalty.

The "main elements" referred to in the draft include producers, directors, cameramen and actors involved in making a pornographic video.

Besides videos, the bill covers all electronic visual material, such as DVDs and CDs. Other material, such as pornographic magazines and books are already banned under Iranian law.

To become law, the bill requires approval from the Guardian Council, a constitutional watchdog in this conservative Islamic country.

It is widely believed that the bill came as a reaction to a scandal last year, when a private videotape, apparently belonging to Iranian actress Zahra Amir Ebrahimi and allegedly showing her having intercourse with a man, became available across Iran.

The video was leaked to the Internet and released as a black market DVD, becoming a full-blown Iranian scandal. Ebrahimi later came under an official investigation, which is still ongoing.

Ebrahimi denied that she was the woman in the film in an interview with the British newspaper Guardian earlier this year and dismissed it as a fake, made by a vengeful former fiance bent on destroying her career.

Yeah and how soo they forget that Mohamed had a 9year old wife and had sex with her when he was like 58+ or something....... Sick silly wabbits

quote:
The thought of an old man becoming aroused by a child is one of the most disturbing thoughts that makes us cringe as it reminds us of pedophilia and the most despicable people. It is difficult to accept that the Holy Prophet married Aisha when she was 6-years-old and consummated his marriage with her when she was 9. He was then, 54 years old.

Sahih Muslim Book 008, Number 3310:
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) married me when I was six years old, and I was admitted to his house when I was nine years old.

Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 64
Narrated 'Aisha:
that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death).

Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 65
Narrated 'Aisha:
that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old. Hisham said: I have been informed that 'Aisha remained with the Prophet for nine years (i.e. till his death)." what you know of the Quran (by heart)'

Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 88
Narrated 'Ursa:
The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with 'Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death).

Some Muslims claim that it was Abu Bakr who approached Muhammad asking him to marry his daughter. This is of course not true and here is the proof.

Sahih Bukhari 7.18
Narrated 'Ursa:
The Prophet asked Abu Bakr for 'Aisha's hand in marriage. Abu Bakr said "But I am your brother." The Prophet said, "You are my brother in Allah's religion and His Book, but she (Aisha) is lawful for me to marry."

I thought we were talking about religion in general.

It's really not about religion, it's about a point of view. All spectrums of worldview have been guilty of outrageous things, from atheists (Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot), to mystics (Hitler, Robespiere), to theists (Inquisitions, witch hunts, jihads). I'm continually amazed by the continual assault on theist religion by some here, without any acknowledgment of the past wrongs of other worldviews. All I hear is the same anti-religion rheteric.

Isn't there a rebuttal book to the God Delusion?

oh please. first off, hitler's religious views are still out to lunch, so dont state them as fact. secondly, please indicate exactly how atheism has ever involved anything? arguing that mao or stalin were atheists and trying to link them to their regimes is a total fallacy. as dawkins likes to say, hitler and stalin both had moustaches. are moustached men inherently evil?

religion, in this case islam, is THE creator various problems. people adhere to religious belief in the public sphere like no other belief system. they justify their positions and activities (in this case laws) by referening an untouchable holy book. appealing to religious doctrine is, and has always been, a nice method of circumventing common sense.

there has never been (or will be) any war fought for atheism. equating past regimes with atheism isn't logically sound.

if there is a rebuttal to the god delusion i would very much like to read it.
