CDJ1000 MK3 Fault - Anyone Else Experience This?

Definitely a faulty unit rather than a design fault.

When I do a spinback on one of my 1000s sometimes rather than spin back, say, 15 revolutions, it might be on the way to 15 revolutions but stop dead and sudden at 10 or 5 and start spinning forward again. Basically a spin back stops well short of where it should - sounding like I put my hand on the top of the platter, before releasing it for it to start spinning forwards again.

My other unit demonstrates no such behaviour.

Obviously I'm going to get it looked at - anyone else experience something similar?

This just totally fucked up a mix I was in the middle of recording!!

Most likely your cdj's have different platter tensions even if they are adjusted exactly the same. My 800 mk2s have different stiffness.

No, it's not a differently tensioned platter. Even whilst the platter is still spinning back the marker in the centre of the CDJ will suddenly stop dead and start spinning back the other way. I have both CDJs set to the same tension, the lowest, so i can spin back for the longest amount of time.

So it's definately a fault with the CDJ.

I'll take it back - but I'm going to wait until i go on holiday for a few weeks - otherwise I'll miss it!

Hmm, yeah that sounds fishy.

the real question is, why are you spinning back in the first place, on a mix too

now, i'm guilty of doing spinbacks too, but there's a time and place for them, used in a live situation, sparingly, very sparingly, maybe one a set

i've seen a dj do a spinback out of a mix for over half his set, i wanted to go up in the booth and give him a smack upside the back of his head

when used properly it can do a lot for the energy in the room, but you have to have the right tracks for it i think, you can't just drop it anywhere and have it go over as planned

i had to say my peace to avoid situations like dj doughhead or whatever his name was i mentioned

spinbacks are like effects, less is more

You've assumed that I spin back on every mix. I don't. How often do you spin back? Probably the same amount as me. Maybe more. I spin back maybe once in a few weeks!

You also assumed i spin back during a transition. I don't. I start mixing a track in during a build with no beat [track a]. I hi-pass filer my incoming track [track b], then slowly cut the filter so that by about 1 or 2 beats before track a is about to kick back in, I have full sound on track b, although often only faded up 75%, and spin back. Cut the spin at the right time as the beat kicks in on track a and you have a really cool energy enhancing trick.

I hope that meets your approval Tony!!!!! I agree with you however that to hear a DJ spin back every other track is very annoying and more often than not is a cover up for a poor trasition.

Last I checked, there's no strict rules on this.

i have an issue with one of my MK3's but it has nothing to do with spin backs, so i thought i would post it here rather than start a new thread...

the play button keeps sticking...there is nothing that i can see that is causing it, there has been no liquid or anything sticky that could have fallen in between either...

has anybody else experienced this issue or know how to fix it?

i was just wanting to mention how spinbacks, if overused or used improperly, can really ruin an otherwise good set
