Mods aren't really the issue with bots. If a spamming bot were to be controlled it would require tweaking the forum server. Banning the username/IP would serve no purpose. This forum is run on an old version of vBulletin Forums as it lacks a lot of the functionality that the current vBulletin has.

While I personally prefer phpBB as it's OSS, vBulletin is good too. A lot of the functionality it has is really nice.
