Hey, I won't ignore you

your track has an interesting note to it. It sounds much like oldschool Dark Trance.
I would use better hihat samples. Check the production section or just google for some links to quality, and free sample packs. The ticking offbeat hihat needs to be replaced first.
Overall the volume of your tune is quite low which is no problem, but there are a few crashes in the tune that are definately too loud in comparison to the rest.
The bass is mudding things a little up. You should look out for the term sidechain compression, this could help you. Also you should use an EQ and cut it below 20-25Hz, just in case the lowest frequencies are muddening the overall sound.
You have some really great melodies during the break. Also the layering of different melody elements later on is very interesting. You seem to have one big advantage over a lot of other aspiring producers.. you seem to know about harmonics and what sounds good and what not.
The rest is mostly technical stuff you'll learn just by practising. Show your tracks to others who can help. Even without professional studio equipment you will learn fast what sounds good and what not.
For example, your tune needs more clarity in the hights, especially on the synths. You will need to boost some hi frequencies (6-8kHz) on your synths to make them shine more.
Your percussion sounds must get fatter, like I mentioned before.
Your bass needs to get clearer. Try playing around a little until you get a bass with shorter notes (less reverb, very short attack) and a little more middle frequencies.

Good luck with your music!

This is a nice dark piece of trance. Perhaps still lacks a bit of drive and the precussion could be a little more developed. Not to mention as the previous poster said, better hi hat samples.

Sidechain compression is very useful but not sure it's the answer for this track. I think you may have some upper frequencies in the bass sound that are clashing and making the mid 250-800 range sound a bit dirty.

I also agree and think you should roll off the lo freqs at about 20 to 40hz. You should probably do this on most tracks anyways just to make sure that your headroom is as free as possible.

You may also want to look at using something like the BBE sonic maximizer to give the sound a bit more sheen. Although you still have a few fundamental things to get right first.

Cheers
Nem

Nem and Cybernetica, thanks so much for the very detailed suggestions. I have been out in the desert for the past week and unable to accesss email. It is SO helpful when people who know what they're doing drop some detailed tips to those of us who are still figuring it out. You guys are awesome and will be rewarded for your good karma.

I will be posting a revision of this song very soon. I have incorporated your EQ and other suggestions into my latest song which I will also be posting shortly.

Peace, Agent Starchild
