I would use the BPM counter as a guide only. NEVER rely on this for total accuracy.

Imagine if you were to get a gig in a club where there were no BPM counters after relying on them for so long......

Absolutely NEVER trust the BPM counter.. They lieee.. And in my case they go from 160 to no bpm :S for songs that are roughly 120-125 bpm.

It's all about the ears, And practice, Practice, Practice, Practice, Practice, .. you get the idea. If your not using vinyl. Do what i do and tap the cue button to the beat.. And hold it where you think the beats match. If you get it wrong.. Release CUE and do it again.

Adjust the pitch slider and move the jog wheel so its perfect and then release CUE and get ready to press Play. If you start to late or to early. Just hit CUE and start again..

Its all about practice.

As for the vinyl question, Same sort of thing. Press play and listen.. Adjust pitch, Pull the record back and find the beat you want to drop in the next song and then release.

why dick around if you REALLY want to swim? sure, it's tough, but doing the sometimes difficult work of listening to your ear and your ear only will pay huge dividends...

i would only use a counter 1) to figure out if a track is a reasonable mix into the current track ... if i'm going to have to pitch up/down 7 or 8 then it's likely not going to be viable... and 2) tapping on an effector... but never to match the mix...

just out of curiosity, wot decks do u have?

as already mentioned, the bpm counters are just a guide - try to minimise ur use of it. maybe start by getting both tracks within 3bpm of eachother then practise just using ur ears . it might be hard at first but u will get it in the end. eventually u will be able to do it without needing to use the counter at all.

but no, it's not cheating if u do use it. u are however giving urself the disadvantage of eventually having to learn to use the decks without it in the end

*** oh for sure im not peter hook :P i think he should kill him self with a prerecorded sets he is just a stupid making some moves and munipulating the EQ anyway i didn't mean to relay on it I meant just to take it as a guide, I never ever relay on BPM counters because it's always don't give u the true BPM however as i mention before when the track change it's speed the BPM counter become stupid and about cheating i would think that im cheating my self because after while i will lose my real sense of beatmatching with my ears

yeah all what i need more practice
