The Fountain soundtrack

Was wondering if anyone here has seen the movie, The Fountain (pretty good) but more importantly given a listen to the score done by Clint Mansell. The Fountain has one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard. Granted its basically variations of a single melody, what Cliff, Kronos Quartet, and Mogwai do with it is ridiculous. Been stuck in my head for last couple days and I imagine it'll be there for a couple more, months that is.

Just wanted opinions not so much on what people thought of the movie, though that is welcome too, but more so on the amazing music in it. For fans of orchestrated music, heavy on pianos and violins, with tinges of electric guitar tossed in for good measure, listen to this gem and find good speakers and/or headphones.

The soundtrack was the best part of that movie. I'll definitely pick it up if I see it in a store.

been wanting to see The Fountain for for some time now, Darren Aronofsky is an amazing director. Requiem for a Dream was also a phenomenal film/soundtrack in which Mansell and Kronos were involved with.

Loved the movie, one of my favorites from last year. However, it's better the first time you see it..in the theater, vs. at home on DVD. It's a lot like Borat in that sense. I think it should have been a little longer, to really develop the story more, but there were issues with the script..esp cause it began in 2001 with Brad Pitt, but he quit and Hugh Jackman took over. It was basically shelved for three years or so. I was really hoping there would be an extended version of it for DVD. The soundtrack was great, but I especially like "Stay With Me"...the song gives me chills...quite haunting.

I love it, in fact i was just listening to it this morning. It's such great music, it's a perfect companion to the visual beauty of the picture. The pieces range from subtle and atmospheric to absolutely immense, like the epic Death Is The Road To Awe. It's both earthy and ethereal. The organic sound of the string quartet, the HUGE sound of the choirs, the guitars and acoustic drums, it's all there in a perfect mixture. My favorite piece off the album if i must choose one is "Xibalba". I would say this is Clint Mansell's best score. It's my favorite recent movie score (this and David Julyan's The Prestige) and one of my favorite albums all genres from the past year.

And the movie is awesome of course. Amazing performances, amazing visuals/light/atmosphere and amazing music.

Clint Mansell is a quality movie score producer. I haven't seen The Fountain yet, heard some mixed reviews of it.
Darren Aronofsky knows how to integrate scores very effectively in his pictures especially in 'Requiem for a Dream'.

glad you mention the visuals..they were amazing for the budget! just a tidbit some might enjoy: all the visuals for that movie were NOT cg animated and in fact were all made by filming microbiotic life from the deep sea under a microscope! even the space graphics and everything!

I've been meaning to get a hold of that soundtrack for quite some time now. I had the main theme stuck in my head for weeks on end - absolutely gorgeous! Excellent movie too

The production on the score is truly amazing. Mogwai frequently is forgotten for his contribution to Clint's music for The Fountain. The Last Man is quite frankly one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard.

As mentioned, David Julyan does some very dark stuff both on The Prestige, The Descent, Insomnia and Batman Begins. He's basically Christopher Nolan's go to guy, just as is Clint Mansell for Arnofsky. Also check out Angelo Badalamenti who did Dark Water and A Very Long Engagement.

Mogwai is a band and David Julyan didn't do Batman Begins.
