Micro$oft bribes press for positive Halo 3 coverage, Yes, they are doing it again..
Well I thought this was interesting.. (Copied from another site)
Once again, M$ is using bribes to gain positive influence in the press for its software. Last year they were busted for bribing bloggers for favorable Vista coverage:
| quote: | Microsoft Bribing Bloggers With Laptops
"According to at least six bloggers, Microsoft has been sending out free top-of-the-line laptops pre-loaded with Vista as a 'no strings attached gifts'. This 'reward' for their hard work on covering tech in general is coincidentally right before the launch of Vista to consumers. To be clear, these weren't loans, they were gifts, and they were top-of-the-line Acer Ferrari laptops. Microsoft blogger Long Zheng broke the silence over the source of the freebies." |
Now they are busted for bribing the press with $800 of stuff (!) for their Halo 3 campaign:
| quote: | Dean Takahashi’s $800 Halo 3 Schwag Bag
This is perhaps the schwag bag to end all schwag bags…
Game journo Dean Takahashi with The San Jose Mercury News showed off his big $800-plus bag of Halo 3 propaganda sent to him by Microsoft.
He’s sending back the free stuff, which he called “nothing less than a bribe to try to get me to be favorably inclined to accepting the idea that Halo 3 is ‘the entertainment event of the year.’” |
Here's a video showing all the stuff M$ is sending to bloggers today. Who knows what else the big sites, newspapers, and TV programs (ahem, G4) get that isn't admitted to. The game was destined to sell well regardless of the reviews, so there's no need for this.
