Dunno Numark Total Control?

I thought I'd ask the DJ community's opinion before I went ahead and bought this.

http://www.numark.com/totalcontrol

I've been messing with Virtual DJ for a while (which, if you didn't already know, is just Numark CUE under a different name) and I'm getting fairly good at using it, but with only a mouse to control the computer, I feel very limited. I have nowhere near the budget for actual turntables, so when I saw this it looked like it might be a good way to 'transition' from computer mixing to 'real' mixing.

I understand that mixing on a computer is over-simplified, beat-matching is automated and all that... but for now that's all I can really handle. My real question is, by using this hardware would I be learning about mixing with turntables any more than I already am, or is this just throwing my money down the "DJing for Dummies" hole?

Thanks in advance...

I use an X-Session controller with Traktor on a laptop. Definitely the Midi controller is a big improvement over just using the mouse.

The Numark controller gets mixed reviews but I guess the price is right. Vestax has a better controller but more expensive.

If you continue on the computer DJing path you might find you like it a lot. There are some advantages over using regular gear.

On the other hand, the DJ scene is very conservative on this and computer methods get some dissing. If you're mostly going to do small parties a computer is OK, but if you take one to a rave or a bigger club you're probably going to get hassled by the other DJs, and getting the gig will be harder if they know you are using a computer (not justified IMO but that's the way it is).

The other thing you could do is pick up M-Audio's Torq Xponent, I don't know how much you're willing to spend, but it's double the price of the Numark Total Control.

From what I've read about the M-Audio Torq Xponent it seems like a good system, but based on two reviews that I've read, the faders are very light. Your other alternative is the Behringer BCD3000, or like tvmann said, the Vestax one.
