Lightbulb MPC over MP3

I just download my first album (Blade 2 Soundtrack) encoded in MPC (MPEGplus) format and I was amazed at the quality of the sound. I have my computer hooked up to the HiFi system in the theater room and the quality was amazing. I never noticed how dull an MP3 sounded before. I even noticed a lot of artifacts in the MP3 version of the same soundtrack which I never heard before. And the MP3s were encoded around the same avg. bitrate as the MPC version. Now I can't stand listening to all my MP3s knowing that I'm missing out on great quality. Trance music is filled with acoustical details which MP3 encoding just seems to leave out. I would like to see MPC files on tranceaddict. Thats all... I NEED the quality!!

What kinda size are the files, are they the same size as a normal mp3?

Sounds interesting, but what software do you use to play it, i like winamp

There is a winamp plugin to play MPC files at the first link.

As for file sizes, they vary. If encoded using the standard option they average around 160kbps. Extreme setting is around 192kbps. Insane is around 256kbps and the Braindead setting is 320kbps. IMO standard MPC is better than MP3s @ 256kbps.

I wonder if you can test, like match mp3 and MPC up, but sounds very interesting

I will investigate

mp3's are good enough. we don't have to have them in absolute perfect quality if we aren't paying a god damn penny for any of it.

Sorry, but i cant see how they can sound as good as you say. I buy alot of cd singles and albums, which is .wav files, which would be the best quality out there (except v.v.v good 12" system & brand new vinyl) and i notice absolutly no difference between the .wav file and the .mp3 @ 192 bit rate.

That is true about most people with limited hearing. It could also matter on what kinda of system you are playing the CDs or MP3s on. If you just have regular computer speakers, you should'nt expect them to reproduce sound as good as a Hi-Fi system can. I like to think of myself as an audiophile considering I have invested $3,000 in my car's audio system and a lot more into my home's multiple Hi-Fi systems. So I can hear the difference between MP3s and MPCs like night and day.

Thank you very much. Are you going to the Gatecrasher party at Area 51 on the 26th this month? Scott Bond is going to be there.

honestly do we care where we listen to our trance music that we download for FREE from websites or mp3 sharing programs? mp3's are doing the job fine. its actually providing more than adequate quality (192kbit) compared with original cd's or vinyls. so why do we need to switch? just more hassle in my opinion. i have heard mp3, which were encoded well, on great car stereo systems and i'll tell you the truth; there is hardly that much difference between burned mp3 and retail released cd's. sure there IS a slight difference but its not as big as you say it is.

remember, you are getting free music from this website. if you want the real deal top quality shit, GO BUY THE ALBUM! you spent over 3 G's on a stereo in your car and you don't wanna spend 20-30 bucks on a 2xCD? jesus

Err, no. I do not have limited earing.

And i dont use crappy pc speakers, i agree that u cannot ear the true quality of the music thro speakers, well atleast pc standard ones. When i listen to music i use fairly expenive panasonic digital headphones, which are excellent, hear every little detail of the track.

I havent been able to notice the difference between an mp3 and a wav on any cd player ive used.

If there is such an obvious difference, make a short sample of both (10 secs or something), and then decode it to .wav, upload them both and try and get people to tell the difference, if there is an obvious difference, then ill believe you!
