Having listened to their Coachella 2006 set enough times, I was able to time a video right to the transition from One More Time into Aerodynamic.

More tomorrow, off to Max Graham right now.

UM yeah its hard to describe how good this show was, In my top 5 shows of all time without a doubt! We wanted to go out afterward but really nothing could get it up after that. Everyone should see Daft Punk once before they die, I really dont know what else to say Im still pretty f'd up from last night, anyone going today? Really not a whole lot but I have a 3 day pass so...

Oh yeah as ou can tell by the video the lighting alone is worth the price of admission!

we could hear bits and pieces of the show from the balcony before we left for spy... I loved their 'close encounters from the third kind' audio intro... I actually got chills when hearing that! Judging from the crowd reaction it seemed like it was going on.

Sick. Absolutely sick.

I've listened to their Coachella set countless times and even though I knew they weren't going to deviate very far from the way they structured Coachella I was still blown away.

It's like being taken home by a girl - you know you're going to get laid but you don't really know how. I knew when they were going to play "One More Time" or "Face to Face" but I didn't know how in terms of lead-ins, samplings of other tracks, on the fly effects etc. They also build their sets incredibly well - making use of big name track samples (The "Around the World" sample during "Television Rules the Nation" is one example). Oftentimes they'll intentionally drag out a bassline of one song then cut out everything and drop only the lyrics of their next track (they did this with "Prime time of Your Life" and it worked extremely well). Their encore was new to me but it was also incredible, as was their orange outlined Daft Punk costumes which included their staple helmet designs and "Daft Punk" emblazoned on their back in bright orange, which they changed into before encoring. For the actual set they wore the black costumes and helmets that have been a staple of their Alive 2007 tour (not that you needed or even cared to know all that).

The visuals were also phenomenal. I read somewhere that they do their visual effects on their own and on the fly which, if true, is mind boggling. This made the set an experience and probably served to the majority of the crowd as the most breathtaking aspect of the set. The people who I talked to, whom had never really listened to Daft Punk, were overwhelmed by the visual effects.

Finally, it should be said that these guys have commanding, outstanding stage presence(s). For the most part neither of them did anything but stare down at the mixers and mix but, in the last half hour right after introducing "Prime Time.." the one on the right (Bangalter, I think) started moving with the music like the way someone would do while driving. Then, at the end, Guy-Manuel made the triangle (representing the stage/spaceship motif?) and the whole crowd did it back to him. Good shit. Sometimes doing less is more and just watching them move in time with their music, without stupid poses or overzealous actions, made the set seem more real, which is important when you're the only act not using instruments.

Anyway, if you're still reading this then I apologize for it being so damn long. I'm just a huge Daft Punk fan caught up in the afterglow of seeing them for the first time.
