Organising your music

I need a program that allows you to create your own searchable fields. I label my tracks with comments like, "funky", "rockin", "cruisy" etc. I want to be able to label each track and then search for them, or bring up all the "cruisy" tracks in order of purchase for example so I can whip it out at a set.

Just labelling your CDs with such comments would work but I also need this program so I can label the tracks I don't buy aswell, then do a search to find the tracks I will buy from my might buy list. Does that make sense?

Does such a program exist?

I think iTunes would fit your needs... You can "label" your tracks by filling in the appropriate label under "Genre". Then (assuming you add each track to your library by date of purchase) you can sort your tracks by different column headings such as "Date ADded" or "Date Modified". The best part is that there is a search feature in the top right-hand corner of the program so all you'd have to do is search "Funky" and sort by Date Added and that should work...

A friend was telling me about a program that would categorize your music by key and determine what tracks would fit together the best.

Does anyone know what this program is?

like stefanoc said, it's Rapid evolution

i'm using it and it's a perfect app to use when mixing.. determine compatible tracks with keys, categorize in genre, bpm,... everything's in there. and it's free !

I use windows media player 10... it works fine. I use the star ratings and genre's to work out what songs are like and I usually arrange stuff by album (release date usually doesn't make much difference to me).

I only DJ with programs though...but I really hate iTunes
