american/canadian bands that don't rely on powerchords

most people who know me know i have a bad fetish for dodgy rock/punk bands, but i'm looking for ones who write their own melodies a lot more than using the strength of powerchords. Something i've noticed Red Hot Chili Peppers are able to do well. I'm looking for modern bands, anything from the mid 90s to date will do fine, even if odd songs, looking to appreciate good guitar work a bit more. Posted here cos more people here have a clue, and cos I don't want armin as an answer

gracias

Well my favorite rock band can do that pretty well. It's a ska band called Less Than Jake. Another really good modern band that has some really catchy riffs and an awesome vocalist is Cartel.

enjoy

I'm not sure I want to date you anymore, how can you hate Cartel???

Their vocalist has the coolest voice ever, I wish I had a voice like that. It's kind of girly but it soundslike a panty dropper.

Mindless Self Indulgence is the future of punk rock, if you ask me.
