I remember in elementary school, we had a kid named Steven in our class. Steven was one of those kids who was always disrupting things - he'd yell and scream at the most inappropriate of times - like during a lecture - and was just an all-around social mess. Steven had no friends because there was something wrong with him that distanced him from the rest of us. Who knows what the hell it was, but he was always being sent to the principal's office or to his personal counselor because his outbursts were more than the teacher could manage while having to be attentive and focused enough to properly teach the rest of the class.
I remember once, Steven started talking to himself and yelling furiously during class - completely at random - everyone laughed quietly to themselves while our teacher tried to get Steven under control. She eventually sent him to his counselor because she was sick of dealing with him, but knowing his tendency towards directive deviance, she sent a fellow student (one trustworthy, to be sure) to follow Steven as he made his way across our very open and unregulated Las Vegas DODDS school. Before the door could fully shut as the teacher's sleuth skulked his sneaking self out of the room in pursuit of Steven, we heard a panicked "I DON'T WANT ANYONE TO FOLLOW ME!!!" come from outside, followed by the sound of scurried footsteps as that of a frightened animal. Our teacher rushed out of the room as fast as her old self could muster in order to once again get what she felt was a grasp upon the situation. Meanwhile, the class erupted in laughter - not in sympathy or in concern for this kid who simply could not socialize, but in derision at the fucking moron kid who acted as an animal does and was not smart enough to know that he would have saved himself a lot of trouble and crying angst had he not overreacted in the way that he did.
Steven was retarded, for all intents and purposes. And most everyone who once laughed no longer remembers him because he was a mere animal - a fucking hiccup of the species who simply did not understand or have control over his own actions.
