Arrow Iio/Rapture on the radio!?!

I cant believe. I dont know where you all are from and what kind of music they have on the radio where you are at. But in Japan most of the stations are traditional Ryukyu music, CNN in japanese and some contemporary american music mixed with some Jpop songs. there is but one station where they play "american" pop, and of course that is the only station that foreigners can actually understand. most of the time they are playing pretty cheesy stuff over and over. but i always turn the radio on when im at work anyways and sort of tune out the occasional more stupid songs when they come on. anyhow the station is called Wave 89 and its run by U.s. Millitary members, so you can imagine that they have to try to do the best they can by playing a wide variety of music trying to please everybody at the same time. well the only thing they ever manage to do for me is piss me off cuz they always play so many damn stupid songs. but today topped it all. first time ever since in 9 months since ive been listening to this radio station everyday i actually heard an electronica song. and i do believe that it must have been the original version of Iio's,Rapture. man i wouldve never have expected that song if any electronica songs to ever come on this station. man and i used to like the remixes that i have but now they have been corrupted. im beginning to understand now why so many people on TA are always bashing Iio-Rapture. Well i say ban the mother f****r from ever being remixed again. I mean the main reason why i like electronica (mostly Trance) is because its not so commercial. i wouldnt exactly call the whole electronica scene "underground". but you know what i mean when certain poppy trance songs like Alice Deejay go mainstream and you got the world bopping there head to it thinkinthat its the #1 electronica song in the world. why dont they ever play some Ferry Corsten or Tiesto on the pop, rock staion once in a while. i dont know, it propably wouldnt be a very good idea to do that. but they need to stop filling peoples heads up with propaganda, and play a decent tune if your gonna play electronica at all. stop the insanity

rapture was good while it lasted... its downfall was that all these wicked remixes we heard were a remix of a cheezy pop-house tune that was set to be released into the mainstream...

after that there was no turning back. it got the usual treatment, i.e. over-played to fcuk everywhere. now its just boring...

theres a huge list of wicked tunes that have gone this way... now we all hate them because we have simply heard them too much

I still love the original Rapture,

From my phases of music, I've learned that what you hear on the radio or in MeatMarketGrindPalaces isn't a very good representation of a music genre. I mean, even from the standpoint that their music is shitty. Its true with Rap (when I used to listen to it), from my experience- the good stuff is NEVER heard on the radio or MTV. Its true with Trance too. You have to go deeper to find the good stuff. That's the way it should be. I think its rewarding to like a genre like Trance. The deeper you go, the more talented producers you hear. The deeper you go, the chance you go to a club and hear a tune that moves you so much you would DIE if you can't find out what it is. Thats what its about to me. I'm glad the shit goes on the radio, and the good stuff is harder to find.

But, its bound that a great track is going to slip onto the mainstream radio. I means that the track transcended its confines.

In Durham, NH it's incredibly rare to even hear something like 'Aurora - Ordinary World (above and beyond remix)' on the pop station, called 'WERZ'...go to werz.com and see what kind of lists they have...plus, you have to wait till one 'saturday night club night' to hear ANYTHING like that...

OK, I understand what you're saying man, but you gotta look at it this way. Think of all the people in the world that listen to radio. No, seriouslly. Think about that number of people. NOW, think of all the people that are into trance as much as you, I, or anyone else on this board (that is a TRUE tranceaddict). That's NOT a great percentage of people in the world that like trance is it? No, not at ALL. Now, there are those out there that recognize this, and I think you are missing the point of people like this playing Rapture on the radio. I don't think they played it for themselves, or even die-hard trance fans, b/c if they had, they would have known that this song has been out (to our knowledge) for a LOOOOOOONG time. I think when they play stuff like this, it's to reach the attention of people who haven't heard it before....possibly to open them up to the world of electronica with a very familiar song. That's how I got my start with electronica.

I heard Ayla - Ayla (DJ Taucher Remix) about two years ago in a club, and I just HAD to know what it was. I did some asking around, got on a few message boards, and finally came up with what song it was I heard. That led me into discovering this whole "underground" plethera of songs called "trance" and that is why I STILL love it today.

So take it easy on the DJ's on the radio playing what WE consider mainstream/old/etc records. You might be sick of hearing it, but there's someone out there that's a TranceAddict-in-the-making, and they have to be reached somehow, ya know!?!?

Again, I see what you're saying....I wouldn't choose to play Rapture on the radio (maybe the AvB Remix...YEEEAH, slammin!), but if my main interest is to turn people onto trance, I wanna give them something they can go to their friends/internet/etc and ask "hey, I heard this song today that had the lyrics like 'rapture tastes so sweet'"......you see my point!?!?!?!?

to become a TA like you and me and everyone else on here, you gotta start somewhere....so like the Beatles said..."let it be"

yea i hear it sometimes at work. right along the hip hop and mainstream music.. like the tune. [love the Armin Van Buuren mix] . the tune in it's normal version is very close to pop music. i'm not surprised to hear it on the radio. now if i heard aphex twin or Crash Worship on the same station that would be intresting.

Well... About 7 months ago, I had the IIO - Rapture 12" I was playing it. My little sister comes into my room and goes, Turn it down, You music sucks. Ok, A ordinary 13 year old attitude, Now, Two weeks ago, She was listening to it saying how good it was. And then I later found out it was on the radio.

well, that's a typical 13-year-old attitude for you, so that really doesn't count.

May main point was that sometimes, it's those songs that are on the radio that get us turned onto a whole different genre of musis that we never even heard of or could see ourselves listening to, and I think that is a GOOD thing.

I Do, however, understand what the originator of this thread is saying. It's old news to us, and most people probably ARE sick of it. I understand that, I really do. But not everyone (MOST of the people in the world, as a matter of fact) have NOT heard that song or any other trance tune for that matter. So, if at least one other person can be turned onto trance by a song on the radio...whether it be Iio - Rapture or Oakenfold - Southern Sun...hell, I'm down with that b/c I think that's a good thing...just my $65 worth...

Your right in the UK , we have a few main radio stations we have BBC Radio 1 , Key 103 Rock FM, etc etc , all they play is the same shit day in day out , occasionally Radio 1 do play a few Sets from a few good DJ's but they dont play 'REAL TRANCE' during the day. im sick of all these crap songs , ive never heard in my whole like any tiesto tracks being played on the radio , maybe i dont listen to it that much but if did then id listen to the radio everyday.

I like on GTA 3 , Rise FM / Chatter Box / Flashback FM , id love to listen to these in real life. All im stuck with is some crap POP shit being played 8 times a day.

Im glad really that Tiesto aint played on the radio as everyone would like it , which mean it would not feel special.

I heard it in a Wilson Farms. The singer has a very nice voice, although I think the music is a tad dull. I like their dance music better than Fatboy Slim's dance music anyways. Both very commercial dance artists that got radio play.
