CIA, Diebold Edited Wikipedia Entries

And the CIA has turned up on a list of groups that have edited entries on the popular online encyclopedia Wikipedia. According to Wikipedia Scanner, a user logging on from the CIA’s web domain made edits to the entry for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmenidijad. The controversial voting-machine company Diebold has also been caught making changes. In 2005, a Diebold computer was used to remove paragraphs describing chief executive Walden O’Dell as a top fundraiser for President Bush. Paragraphs and links referring to voter fraud in the 2000 elections were also taken down.

i was wondering how long it would take someone to mention this. really, is it that big of a deal? it IS a public information service after all. Why should the CIA be any different to the rest of us? wiki is full of shit and bias, i dont really see the issue.

I think its far more offensive that the japanese write historically inaccurate textbooks for their students regarding WW2.

Becuase the CIA is kind of in the intelligence gathering and disinformation business.

Edits made by someone at CIA may not necessarily reflect a policy to spread misinformation via wikipedia. It's ridiculous to assume they are doing it. Let them hack into Encyclopedia Britannica and make edits. Then we will see.

You can view the edits they make.

They are deliberately modifying certain bits of information that they deem sensitive.

I'm sure the encyclopedia britannica is auto-censored in the same way; with wikipedia, the public has full access, and the information is real-time, so it's a more difficult beast for them to contain.

The CIA misinformation is definitely scandalous, this is a conspircay which can bring down governments for sure

The Vatican carried out shit more interesting than that!

quote:

The Vatican has apparently edited entries about Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams, removing a link to newspaper stories alleging his involvement in a double murder in 1971.
