Hi everyone

We've developed a small program called Folder-Snap which catalogs Windows folders. It is very well suited to managing and auditioning sample collections.

Information such as bit-rate, duration, and sample-rate is automatically captured, and user-defined properties such as decay and distortion can be specified.

All of these properties can be searched on, and the sounds can be auditioned through the integrated Nullsoft Winamp controls.

Folder-Snap is also great for sharing listings of music collections.

The program was originally made so that I could find files on my backup CD's, and also for letting my friends see my music collection.

After I added user-definable categories, I found myself using it mainly to locate sounds in the mess that is my sample collection

this looks promising.

does it support multiple windows?

The program is a single window like Windows Explorer, but you can open multiple instances of Folder-Snap, and have them all looking at the same snapshot file.

Pretty cool dude. I wish there was a way to include key detection as well (obviously, not needed for drums like shown in the screen shot), but those algorithms are spotty at best, especially for short samples.

Yeah, there's no key detection, but I'm open to suggestions. I'll certainly have a look into it.

Currently, the only similar kind of information extracted from wav files is the midi root note that some samplers store.

Complicated searches can be saved and recalled at any time.

Andy, if you could build accurate key detection into the program, I will buy it from you immediately. Currently, I have to play a sample and hit a note on my keyboard to find the right key. It's not hard to do that of course, but it would be a great time saver. Especially when it comes to layered samples that I have extracted from others' tracks.

A complete sample collection's catalog can be stored as a single snapshot file, or you may split it up if you like.

The program was originally produced to send friends complete listings of music collections by right-clicking on a folder in Explorer (or on a drive) and taking a snapshot of it. For this reason, the saved snapshot .dir file is a single compressed file.

The other reason for producing Folder-Snap was to locate files backed up on many different CD's. A master snapshot can be created by adding more and more folders, or by adding one or more existing snapshots, if you know what I mean.

After adding user-definable categories, and automatically extracting information from media files, I started using it as a sample manager. That's when the Winamp controls were put in for auditioning, and an image viewer was added.

So, to answer your question, you don't have to worry about files being scattered throughout your system.
