Read This! Kursk (a submarin in troubled waters)

This is about the Russian Submarine accident that killed all of its crew members on Aug 2000. It is a very informative film for those who are interested.

a whole lot of obfuscation if you ask me.

it tries to dramatize the whole tragedy with espionage and the Chinese and the Schvall torpedo and Putin. whatever.

the crew dropped an exercise or warshot (probably an exercise because they were going out to play wargames) torpedo while they were loading it and didn't realize they had mortally wounded it. it later caught fire in the torpedo room while underway and set off an entire room full of weapons. it blew the entire forward area off before the sail.

how the Russian government handled the tragedy afterwards was a tragedy in and of itself.

I am preparing a video with a help of my friend (decoding VHS to AVI format) that talks about the history of my people, the Cossacks. I think there's some knowledge there that everyone here would like to learn. Because some people still think communists were good.

In case you didnt follow the media, it was portrayed as Putin killing the sailors - as usual, Putin is behind everything. While in reality, with the bureaucracy and lack of proper rescue vehicles, the sailors were doomed even before they set sail. I am not sure about the situation today with rescue teams, but hopefully its better. Russia today is still mainly built on the Soviet principles where human life is worthless. Fucking communists.

man, I remember that as well,,,,,, that was focked up!!

@ hardcore trancer: nice topic..... not too sure on the video though.... but Damn I remember the fear I carried when I was in the Sub Fleet.... hearing and seeing the bulkheads stress when we would dive..... knowing that even a small fire could potentially be fatal.... fock was I crazy... but damn at the time of this tragic accident, I remember sitting watching head line news or something and just lighting a incense for those poor sailors... the same fear and prior knowledge of how I could of died, came to a head.... for them...

sad...

As far as I'm concerned, submariners are more fucked in the head than paratroopers

Imagine being in the Kursk while that happened. I would rather be killed instantly. I'm sure the survivers had their ear drums blasted out. The shock could be detected thousands of miles away.

it wasn't too bad. it stunk, it was cold, 90% of the time it was a mind numbing bore.

the other 10% of the time it was bedlam with the foul stench of foot odor and amine in the air.

One thing I dont understand is why when Russia arrests some corporate heads or raids media companies, that is viewed as attack on democracy, while the details of the case and crimes, corruption and/or murder for which those actions are done are ignored. Russian lawmakers have been busy trying to fix things here and there in Russia, though such things as mentioned below dont get any airtime in western media, apart from the Poliktovskaya case arrests, which surprisingly did get little media fanfare in the West:

Reputed St. Petersburg Mob Boss Arrested

Russia Sacks General Over Soldier's Death

http://www.rferl.org/featuresarticl...D413357E45.html

Just imagine if anyone else is arrested, and lets say they're pro-Western or anti-Putin, well, you'll see it in the Western media as an attack on Russian democracy ...
