Roll Call: Last 2007 Promise Cherry Beach Afternoon Soundsystem
Another end of summer has arrived with Promise Cherry Beach Parties. Please come out to celebrate the end of 2007 and beginning of 2008 sessions at Cherry Beach. I personally thank everyone involved in a lobbying campaign at the city hall and with councilor Paula Fletcher to make these events happen again this year.
Cherry Beach events have become a summer ritual for me and hold a special place in my heart. Thank you Dave and Irving for making such a difference in your community and being persistent in spite of all the challenges faced.
Also PLEASE do not consume alcohol or other illegal substances on the beach if you wish for these parties to continue. Police is bound to come around today (they visited Cherry Beach yesterday and there was nothing going on at the beach).
Hope to see you there!
Gabi

this MONDAY September 3rd
promise cherry beach monday afternoon soundsystem
Thanks everyone for the kind and generous donations last sunday - in just that one day you donated exactly enough to cover the cost of the weekend plus enough to replace everything that had been stolen from our van the weekend before. Thank you so much – it feels good to hold these events for such good people.
Join us for an early start at 2 on this last day of sunny summer afternoons down at the beach.
Two important things:
In a solid effort to reduce the amount of garbage generated by the afternoon, we encourage you to remember to bring reusable cups and bottles.
Also, consumption of alcohol in public space is not allowed. Simple. We’ve done a great job so far, let’s keep it tight, and help friends on the blanket beside you to remember too. David and Irving are at the beach to enjoy the afternoon and patrolling around watching for open alcohol gets tedious.
Our lineup this weekend has a special feature. We recently have had a visitor who surprises us by playing saxophone really well along with the dj. It turns out his whole crew comes up from Buffalo each week to enjoy the party and they are awesome people. One of them is a good dj and they play together on small tours. As Canadians, we tend to generalize a lot about the U.S. and about Americans, but we need to remember that there are some millions of fine people just south of us. Here are two of them.
Here’s the line up:
Aia - downtempo funk
Dalia - classic dub and hip hop
A Man Called Warwick - brazilian rare groove
Zuk and Killian from Buffalo - deep house with Killian on sax
Maracatu Nunca Antes - samba drum crew
Phat Conductor - breaks
Ian Guthrie - minimal techno
Alex Courner - deep trance
2 to 11pm
Change of location!
Cherry Beach is just along Lakeshore past Parliament. Turn down Cherry Street and follow it to the end. At the roundabout go left - NOW HERE”S THE CHANGE - at the end of the east parking lot follow the bike path corridor through the fenced off area to the other side, then cut through the trees down to the lake. We’re on the beach by the water beside the windsurfing club.
Biking to Cherry Beach is easy along the paths beside the lake, a bus route from Union Station goes down there too.
Things to think about: Please bring only what you plan to take back out with you - leave no trace. Pack something warm (it gets cool after dark by the lake) and something to sit on and also something to keep sun off your head. Drink lots of water. Bring something to share.
And remember to take care of your friends, your neighbours, and what's going on around you. It's what makes afternoons at Cherry Beach happen smoothly.
We recently had a cute Promise Cherry Beach sticker printed. If you like stickers for your gear remember to ask for one.

***********Just a reminder************
Bring reusable cups and dishes for your picnic. We're making a solid effort to reduce the amount of garbage produced from the day and ask for your help with this.
And also a reminder that alcohol in public places in not allowed. Our mature and responsible behaviour here is completely necessary. If you see anyone with open alcohol, please empower them to make a good choice by explaining the conditions of our trial permit and the general law, and then make sure they get rid of it immediately.
David and Irving will have zero patience with repeat trangressions - anyone who persists in jeapordizing the smooth flow of the day with open alcohol will be told to leave.
It's a serious fucking deal and we appreciate your understanding, cooperation and collective vigilance. We've all done well so far, let's keep it up. Thanks!
cheers,
David and Irving
