Hey all.
Was just wondering what is in your typical production drumkit, what type of sounds would u generaly use in most of your productions....What would you consider to be the bricks and mortar of your construction?

I really like the Thrillseekers sample pack drumkit.

I don't have a "typical drumkit". It's different every single time.

But if we go into the type of sounds used, then I usually have at least these going:

1. kick
2. closed hat
3. open hat
4. snare/clap
5. crash, ride
6. percussion loop

Should come up with something new

Same. I always start out with an empty Battery cell window and take some time sifting through samples, filling up the cells with appropriate sounds by row. Its whatever sounds good to my ears at the time.

Agreed... good to switch up the sounds.

But regardless, aside from the usual suspects (kicks, snares, hats, etc) I dig bongos and shakers.

I have a ton of percussion samples, some I've collected from here. The battery samples are good, some of them are really unconventional but that's good for adding an avant-guard element. I use whatever percussion instruments a song needs. I try to mix it up and not use the same samples over and over. I like snares rather than claps. I like to use hi hats that don't sound typical. I use shakers, sine clicks, bongos, tambourines. Sometimes I'll add deep toms, pan them to the sides and have them play against each other. I like to have a lot going on in my percussion lines. I plan to one day use every sample in my huge collection.

i always for look weird little sounds to use for some percussion elements...to add that flair to the standard kit. Its good to be diverse when making a good groove. If my percussion can't stand alone without the bassline then i know they still need work. Dont go for a standard kit...be creative.
