Is Tafe a scam?

I'm studying at tafe atm doing basic IT stuff, and in doing some reseach for an assignment came across the following site.

http://www.pcsupportadvisor.com/DHCP_page1.htm

Comparing that to the actual Tafe site I am using show some very interesting cut and paste:

http://www.tvicomputing.com/protocols/Week4/1.htm

Add to this in the first half of the year, one of the subjects was really just a link to a US website, what am I paying for?

what are the alternatives?

self study
uni
specialised course
other?

doesn't matter which you use, they're all tools to get you to where you want to go. some may get you there faster. Whichever works for you (cost, material, at home vs classroom) is what you should go with.

whatever the case, if you're serious about a chosen career path then doing *some* form of study is better than doing nothing.

Are you learning anything there?
TAFE is meant to teach anyone from 15 to 70 from any educational background at mostly elementary level, sometimes it'll have some flat spots where people cover stuff they already know. I mean if you know it all then we're expecting big grades

I went to tafe and now i'm working in the IT industry. let me tell you your TAFE or Uni degree doesn't determine what kind of work you get into. It's how good your boss is, how much they're willing to pay to train you up, and how many additional creditations you get along the way (mcse, citrix certified professional, cisco certs), and all that kinda jazz. Most importantly a good boss is #1

Yeah I know what your saying with the certificate not meaning much. I am only doing the course out of interest tho and not as part of a career move. I already have a decent management job, and when employing I always skip over what cert's a person may have, as it doesn't mean much to me. Personal presentation, confidence, and just all round impression means more to me than what course someone has done, but then all our training is in-house anyway.

My original thought was more about plagiarism. As a student, I should not do it, yet it's ok for the course curriculum to be constructed in this very way. I don't claim to know anything of what I have learned thus far (except OH&S), so the course has served some purpose, thing is, if I knew just what to look for, I could have done it free. That and the course is more broad than my initial interest (not that I mind that).
