Read This! For all the TOTA Allergy Sufferers

For all those who suffer from Allergies like myself, especially this time of year.

The 5 Foods That Can Help Stop Allergies
Monday September 17, 2007

Sneezing. Wheezing. Eyes filled with tears. There's nothing more frustrating than having an allergy to something, especially at this time of year. But before you pop that next pill or avoid going outside altogether, check the one place you'd never expect to find an aid for these common cold-like symptoms - your fridge.

Naturopaths claim there's an easy way to beat the symptoms and it's all in what you eat. They name five so-called 'super foods' that will help deflect the worst of what allergies put on the menu.

What are they? Here's the list

#1: Apples

"Apples are a very good antioxidant food," insists Dr. Elena Krasnov. "It's full of vitamins. It's rich in minerals."

#2: Fish

"Cod fish has a lot of omega-3 fatty acids," she reminds. "Most of them are anti-inflammatory."

#3: Romaine Lettuce

"All green vegetables, especially romaine, are rich in magnesium and other minerals," the healer comments. "It's important for our immune system."

#4: Spices: Ginger and Turmeric

"They are traditionally used as spices, but they also have medicinal ingredients. They are anti-inflammatory."

#5: Dark Chicken and Turkey Meat

"All sorts of meats are high in zinc but they're also high in fat and cholesterol," she warns.

One final tip on alleviating allergy symptoms: You may want to lay off the cheese and the milk. Dairy encourages the formation of mucus. And that could lead you to feel stuffed up all over again.

I call bullshit.

I eat all of these in large quantities, and well, allergy city. I'm Indian, and make curry, and other Indian foods, which require ginger/turmeric, and dark chicken. I make a lot of salads, usually with romaine lettuce, and eat an apple every other day.

As for the fish, well I just started eating cooked fish (never cod) on the regular, but I have been eating sushi on the regular for years.

Funk that. Reactine works wonders for me. It's the only non-drowsy one that actually works.

But it doens't work for everyone. Keep trying the different kinds of non-drowsy antihistamines, and you'll fine one your body reacts well to. It took me over a decade of trying others (Hismanal, Seldane, etc) without success until Reactine came along.

Other than that good ol Benadryl ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz.......... but it works.

ROFL!!! thank you funny asian i never met. It's awesome how laughing out loud can actually make one feel better.

I also call bullshit. Those are generalizations. Allergies and their treatments are obviously(to anyone that has them) entirely dependant on the person.

I used to love reactine. Now it does nothing. Also took benadryl, but it made me sooooo drowsy as well. Had success with claratine extra strength sinus 24 hour non drowsy but after a few seasons its wearing thin. I gotta take 3 to do what one did.

I hear that many allergy suffers have to switch their anti-histamines because their bodies learn to block the anti-histamine medacine after time or some bs like that.

especially the apples - what does being an antioxidant have to do with allergies?

Aerius didn't so anything for me either. We must keep trying different ones, everyone reacts differently. Regular anti-histamines work with everyone, if everyone doesn't mind yawning all time and bearing the fatigue.
