Talking UnknownTracks.com Automated Sample Streaming

http://www.unknowntracks.com

Hi,

I've been working on this for about a month now and it finally seems to be working... I have a stream set up that lets you listen to samples from threads in here that still need IDing - if you know what the track is you can just click on Click to ID to take you to that thread and post a reply with what you think it is....

Requirements:

Internet Explorer
Real Player

Yes, I hate Real Player as well - but - it is the only thing out there that will stream mp3s on that fly without need of a server - and real player can be embedded within a webpage, winamp cannot (IE 6.0 + Windows Media Player is not an option either.)

The interface is kind of ghetto but i'll improve over time - so if some of you have suggestions/time to test this out please go ahead and try.

Good work Listening to the stream now . . .

I take it this will be linked from Unknown tracks forum ?

Much better than having to download all the samples from each thread

Also, what sort of update time is it ? as in how long from when a sample is posted to it going into the stream ?

Got another couple of questions about it lol

When a sample has been IDed how long will the sample remain in the stream ?

And is the Click to ID button working ?
cos i have tried on several samples now that i know the ID of and pressing the button, nothing happened lol and i waited more than the suggested 10 seconds . . .

Hi

The server died earlier so when you pressed the button it didn't retrieve the information it needed to go through from there (but you were still listening to the real player stream since that is different entirely)..

It is fixed now...

Once I have it set up it will remove IDed tracks from the stream every 15-20 minutes - it just checks to see which threads in UnknownTracks since October have samples in them and are NOT closed yet... then it knows it still (most likely) needs to be IDed..

I'll have the samples from early 2001 put back but I gotta dump them outta the database and reencode them and all that crap.. maybe I'll do that tonight

point of interest... this happened for me, i dont know if it happens to you....

when in TA chat, and listening to the "Identify song radio".... once you click "ID song!" button, it tries to open a new (javascript?) applet or window, and it automatically kicks you from chat.... this happened to me consecutively (on trying on purpose) 3 times....

is this a property-set feature i can change on my local IE explorer, or a function of how the pages open?

There are currently 625+ samples in there.. 530+ of them are songs that need by IDed between October 2000 and late October 2001...

Those old ones are easy to ID now..

lol, i was sitting there waiting for the same sample to come on so i could id it... if i wasn't a quitter i woulda been sittin there for a long-ass time heheh.

ya those old ones shouldn't take to long to id, i heard way out west- the fall on there

one more thing, would it be possible to have a link to id the "last song streamed"? or maybe the last 2 or 3? cos sometimes you can't get back to the computer before the sample changes, then you're screwed. for example, i was cooking something, and i could hear the streaming samples, and i heard one that i knew but i couldn't get back to it quick enough. i dunno, maybe it would be alot of work? but it might be useful. or maybe theres another way that i dont know about...
