Has anyone got a tutorial or any tips for creating a sweet trance plucked sound?
Feel free to post examples.

Most of it is in the filter envelope. Use a low pass filter and get the filter decay and sustain so that it plucks the filter.
Also, try this thread and the "programming analog synths" manual by howard scarr. It's on the Access-Music.de site somewhere

Having just checked my soft synths I cannot find one that allows me to modulate the filter release using the filter envelope. Any ideas on which soft synths can do this.
I've checked V Station, absynth, pro 53 and it doesn't look like it can be done on any of them! Bugger!

you can do it easily with v-station and pro-53, thats what teh filter envelopes do

but how do you get the filter envelope to MODULATE the filter release
With a mod matrix. The tutorial was written for the virus, so all this recursive crap meant for that, or anything else with a modulation matrix. Not something you find on many softies.

Just found this VSTi, String Thing, it is basically a plucked string synth based on the Karplus-Strong algorithm.
