Ableton Live 6 - pops and crackles

Say im running a couple of z3tas, couple of predators, battery, maybe 2 SIRs on return tracks, also a UAD-1 loaded at about 70%
Ill be gettin a reading of around 25% on Ableton's CPU meter in the top right hand corner
Now i know thats a fair bit of stuff, but if its only showing 25% or so, why do i get a few pops and crackles etc...?
Or is that meter not accurate at all, altho it seems to be the same as XPs task manager
Ive got a 2.67ghz dual core PC, 2gb ram, WD 320g hd, XP SP2 and and E-MU 1212M with latency set to 10ms

Can anyone give their limits in Live, if its a case that ive just hit my CPU limit then i'll freeze tracks, but could my soundcard be playing into this

Thanks all

The problem is probably with your audio buffer.

You can simply increase the buffer in your preferences -> audio -> buffer size. Play around with the values.
Or you use an ASIO driver which has no disadvantages known to me. In preferences -> audio select driver type "ASIO", then select your audio device.
If your soundcard doesnt provide ASIO drivers, you can just download "ASIO4All" here: http://www.asio4all.com/ ... then select the ASIO4All driver in the options of Live, just like I explained above.

well thats what you will have to do is increase your buffer... when im working on a song i just increase it to the max and when i have to record some stuff i bring it down to 2ms, record and then bring it up again.
