Before you write off Cubase Studio as a crappy "Cubase SE" equivalent, you might like to check the feature list - chances are you don't need any of the extra functions of Cubase full (I didn't).

I purchased Cubase Studio 4 from Derringers for $330AUD about 6 months back. It has not been registered at all (I skipped it), so you're practically getting a new copy. Cubase Studio is essentially the same as Cubase 4, you just don't get the new channel EQ, surround sound support, hardware management and some other small things. This is the academic version, which is the same product as the full version, but you need to be a student to buy it. I asked Derringers if this affects upgrade paths, they said it is fine and that Steinberg even have academically priced updates. You may need to verify this with Steinberg, but I can't find anything to the contrary.

I would recommend that whoever buys Cubase also buys the Behringer BCF-2000, as they work really well together. For those of you that aren't aware, the BCF-2000 has motorised faders and emulates most of the functions of Mackie Control units that cost a few grand. You probably won't realise how good the BCF-2000 is until you try it yourself. The Mackie Control emulation makes it better than most MIDI controllers (I find standard MIDI controllers to be useless). I actually bought Cubase specifically so that I could use the BCF with it haha... The controller was purchased on the same day as Cubase, for $340.

Reason for selling? I now use Reaper. I always found the workflow of Cubase to be difficult, because there are so many windows. The BCF-2000 is in as-new condition, because I discovered Reaper about 2 weeks after buying Cubase. Unfortunately, the BCF-2000 isn't supported properly by Reaper.

I'm pretty firm on that price, they seem to still be going for $330 new.

It's not really fair to compare US prices to local haha. But... If you get one for $240US shipped, thats about $280AUS. They don't have a variable voltage power supply, so you would need to buy a good step down transformer. Therefore, you're looking at $300-310 anyway. I'll do $200 posted to Syd/Melb. Not sure about costs to Perth etc. I think it is the same rate, Australia wide.

EDIT: Typical price for a step down transformer on ebay is around $40:

That would make it ~$320, and a lot of hassle.

FYI, this is a common thing for Behringer. They set relative pricing and use non-variable power supplies for practically everything. Hence, theres rarely any benefit in purchasing from overseas - you lose your warranty too.
