The tiny snippet game

In the book I'm reading (This Is Your Brain on Music), the author claims that in a study people could identify popular songs based on short slices just a tenth of a second long and I wanted to test that out. So here are five tiny slices (about a fifth of a second) of some famous trance songs. See if you can identify the song each one is taken from:

http://www.philosophaster.com/music/others/game/1.mp3

http://www.philosophaster.com/music/others/game/2.mp3

http://www.philosophaster.com/music/others/game/3.mp3

http://www.philosophaster.com/music/others/game/4.mp3

http://www.philosophaster.com/music/others/game/5.mp3

Then maybe we could try some more obscure stuff (and a tenth of a second rather than a fifth) if anyone feels up to it.

Hmm, that's odd. They play fine in Windows Media Player. I'll try using a different encoder...

Actually, here are the WAV files, which should play fine:

http://www.philosophaster.com/music/others/game/1.wav

http://www.philosophaster.com/music/others/game/2.wav

http://www.philosophaster.com/music/others/game/3.wav

http://www.philosophaster.com/music/others/game/4.wav

http://www.philosophaster.com/music/others/game/5.wav

They're also quick to download, being extremely short.

I don't recognise 4 of the 5 samples. The second one rings a bell but that's it. Either I've never heard the others; or the author of your book is wrong. I'm curious if others can identify this easily...

The second one is probably the most famous out of all of them.

It's quite possible you've never heard the others. They are all very well known, but there is a lot of trance out there, of course.

By the way, you can click here to read the answers.

You should've picked more popular samples. I've listened to a lot of trance, but don't know those tracks very well.

I only got the sencond one. Age of love I reckon.

I can often recognise a track from the tiniest of snippets, so i agree with your book.

Only 2 and 5 sounded familiar and I guessed both of them right.

This really irritates me. Hearing such a short sample of a song from years ago can trigger a track title or experience, but I can't remember simple terms that I've been studying constantly all week for my exams .
