The deadline has well and truly passed by now. I'm not keen at all to allow very late entries. I'll post something in the week one challenge thread now...

Fair enough, but no way has it been a week since I signed up and got the email with the samples.

No, it hasn't been a week. If you check the comp timing, the challenges begin on Thursday and entries have to be submitted by Monday midnight. It's much closer to four days than a week.
However, if you get a link to your piece into the other thread today, even if it's just the samples played straight back with nothing done to them, it should get you through to challenge 2.

Heading towards the challenge 2 deadline...
Week one saw the disappearance of three contestants, without a single vote being cast!
Without making music, it's hard to progress in a music competition! Disappointing, but we still have talented producers on board. There will be voting from here on in though... the first week caught me by surprise!
This week's challenge - attempting to recreate a track of our choosing.
For me personally, knowing that nobody gets voted out this week allowed me the freedom to take more risks. I picked a tough track and went for it. I didn't end up too close, but I also didn't end up miles away...recreation efforts always end up somewhere between my production style and the original track...and every time you learn something about other producer's approaches...
There are people who believe that copying other producer's tracks will turn them into a clone of the other producer. If you have never heard any music by anyone other than that producer and you only copy that one producer's tracks, then maybe. But if you try and learn from/ copy different tracks from a wide variety of producers, then the knowledge relevant to your own personal sound will stay in your production toolbox and the other stuff will be discarded. If applied correctly, learning will always lead you to your own sound, not someone else's.
Though I guess this week the game is, try and be exactly like someone else! I picked a producer whose sound I love, whose sound is very much in my direction. I could learn a lot from this guy.
I'm looking forward to hearing this week's entries!

WTF?!?!
Isnt the deadline 11:59 PM Monday night LA time?
I think I might be in a little bit of trouble time wise. I am done but I am stuck at work (I'm ozzy so it's day time) so I won't be able to get home to send out my entry for another 8 hours which will make it about 2 AM Tuesday morning in LA.
Bugger.. own fault, miscalculation of time difference when I last looked at LA time.

How about that....you're in Canberra too?
Yeah, midnight in LA is 5pm Tuesday for us. I've been getting mine done by Monday night so it's done well ahead of the deadline. If I was really up against it one week I guess I could take the Tuesday off work, but hopefully that doesn't happen.
So you'll send it across at 7 this evening? Considering what happened last week, I'm okay with extending the deadline by 2 hours this time around. We need the competitors!
I personally really love the weekly deadlines. It means you put a good chunk of time into a piece of work, then you let it go. No going back to it a week later, just tweaking this sound...then a week after that, changing something else... I mean, that has it's place too, but it's refreshing working to weekly deadlines for a change.
