CD Review Thread (any genre)

thought it might be time for a thread for people to express views on CDs they are listening to at the moment

feel free to comment on any CD but the main reason for this thread is to discuss CDs that arent trance (dance).

Foo Fighters - In Your Honor

good double CD, one rock, one acoustic. havent really listen to the acoustic disc much yet.
havent listened to it cd1 alot yet so songs are yet to grow on me, but so far the best tracks would be tracks 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Way Out West - Don't Look Now
I'm sure most people might have this already, those who saw them at Faithless probably all would!

Had it for quite a while, and is still the number 1 CD in my player. Production wise is of absolute top quality, with plenty of variety, even in the individual songs there is variation (Killa, Fear especially), this is the CD you can listen to over, and over, and over, it never gets tedious.
Vocal breaks - Nothing But You, prog-trance-breaks (sounding like JPL) - Killa, Electroish breaks - Northern Lights. Theres something for everyone.

And you keep finding little gems on it, I only JUST realised this week it had Just Like A Man on it. Like I've said I've had this for quite a while, and I only just realised it was on it. (I kinda like the song, its a real cruisy track, heard it on a chill-out mix and it really is, its great). But yeah, you listen and each time you'll either appreciate songs more, or find new favourites.

But wait, theres more!!
CD2 is a bonus mix from Nick Warren, good, groovy prog. Some top tunes on it, its not quite the more melodic side of prog I prefer, but yeah, its not bad.

CD2 - pretty good dirty house with no much vocals. nice tunes include:

Il Divo - Il Divo

Il Divo are David Miller (USA), Sebastian Izambard (France), Urs Buhler (Switzerland) and Carlos Marin (Spain).

Four classically trained singers united as a result of a global talent search. Teamed with pop producers Per Magnusson and David Krueger (Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys) and Steve Mac (Charlotte Church, Kelly Clarkson), the four lads combine opera and pop with mixed results.

There are some numbers on the CD that are a bit too poppy for my liking, but the infusion of classical and pop is surprisingly sweet in some instances.

Highlights are:

Unbreak My Heart (Regresa A Mi)
Mama (OMFG CH00N~!~)
Passera
Every Time I Look At You

Exclusively dressed by Giorgio Armani the four hunks will undoubtedly be a hit with the ladies, combined with the unique marketing formula they'll no doubt tap into a greater audience. The album soared into Aria's #1 position.

7/10

You can't go past local talent, and it doesn't get any more local then the tracks on the "Fresh FM presents Fresh Air" CD:

It's a compilation CD showcasing the very best of Adelaide producers, with genres ranging from Drum N Bass, hip hop, to in my mind, THE BEST vocal trance track seen come out of Australia. The track I'm referring to is Audio Beverege's "Eternal E", and is a cheesey DJ Sammy insprired vocal trance anthem that just reeks of cheesy DJ Sammy class. Not that there's anything wrong with cheese, or DJ Sammy for that matter, but this indeed, is cheese as it's best

Not to mention a trance stomper from local Adelaide boys Suni & Phorte entitled "Nightscapes": Lihn if you're reading.

haha, fresh fm is the pits.

Foo fighters - a hit and miss album. will get back to you with a better description.... It's all about that huge mouth of Dave's engulfing the mic, singing with his eyes closed.

Oasis - Don't Beleive The Truth.

Probably the best thing the fellers have released since 1995. Which doesnt take much with "Be With Me", "Standing on the Shoulder" & "Heathen Chem" all being sub par.

Stealing riffs from The Stranglers, The Stooges and the obvious John Lennon & Beatles undertones, the guys inject some excellent guitar and drum work to make it thier own. To compliment this, nothing says Oasis more than some tree hugging lovey dove lyrics, thrown down over quite a few tracks..

Although not going to be ever as ground breaking and defining as "Definetly Maybe" or "Morning Glory", the tired out Gallagher brothers have just got enough heart left in the project to throw out an album that is worth a mention and a glimpse of former glory.

Welcome return from Oasis.....

(haha, I would write a proper review, but im listening to Patrick Wolf)

Got the new Coldplay album X & Y a week or two ago. It's awesome. I like it better than their second one and it's about equal with parachutes. So many beautiful tracks. Favourites are square one and talk. If you liked either of their first two albums definitely get this.

THE KILLERS - Hot Fuss

No doubt we have all heard of the killers by now. I really like their sound, which mixes in a lot of electronic along with the regular indie sound. This is their debut album and it sure is a killer. A must have.

The Postal Service - Give Up
In every sense of the word Give Up, the debut album from American Electro beatniks the Postal Service is a remarkable record. Born of a chance meeting between Ben Gibbard, singer of Seattle indie-rockers Death Cab for Cutie and LA resident and Dntel lynch-pin Jimmy Tamborello, and written and recorded by post--hence the name the Postal Service--it's an inspired, if unlikely, marriage of lo-fi innocence and hi-tech beauty. Gibbard's voice is filled with the insecure questioning normally restricted to recently dumped singers in emo bands. Tamborello's clicks, bleeps, analogue murmurs and eerie scraps are the stuff of inaccessible bedroom electronica. Together though, they find a sensual middle ground where stories of jilted lovers and fragile desires softly prick the emotions on a tidal wave of otherworldly synthetic sounds. "The District Sleeps Alone", with its tripping beats, bittersweet computer strings and tragically uplifting hook is melancholy at its most tender. "Sleeping In" is a joyously sunny daydream; a naïve vision of how good the world could be. And everything else falls somewhere between the two--equal parts heartbreak and hope, to form a strange and wonderful dimension where electro-pop has a soul.

the last CD i ever bought was metallica - St Anger. and fuck wasnt i angry about it. that was the end of my love affair with metal (tho id been cheating on it with trance for a while)

worst metallica album without a doubt. if that had been their first album instead of kill em all, they wouldve disappeared into obscurity. utter shit.
