I'm not saying that there aren't a whole lot of shitty Firewire implementations out there - just that there's nothing special about the TI chips. It's possible (although, unlikely I think) that TI has put fewer lousy chips on the market than other manufacturers, but even so, it's not correct to say that you need a TI chip to avoid firewire problems; you just need a chip that doesn't blow chunks.
