A moral question. Nature related.
A little over an hour ago, we were up in the park across the road.
We've been feeding, and observing, a pair of Pied Butcher Birds, on their nest, and their fledgling has just left the nest as of two days ago.
The fledglings can't actually fly properly, until aprox. 2-3 weeks after they leave the nest. They generally just sit around in various branches of the nest tree, until they're capable of doing intense stuff like going down to the ground.
THIS little guy has ended up on the ground, 2 days after leaving the nest. It's so hopeless, and so vulnerable to cats, etc.
Essentially, we have a choice. Leave it, and let nature take it's course... Or, now that it's dark and we can probably find where it's sitting on the ground all calm/roosting. Should we 'kidnap' it (for use of a better word) and raise it, just so it doesn't die? There's a chance that the parents might accept it back in a couple of weeks, once it can fly up to somewhere that it's roughly safe (like into a tree)... But they also may not.
The two schools of thought are kind of driving me nuts.
One way or another, we'll either do something, or nothing. I'm just curious as to what you guys think. I'm aware you guys probably aren't into wildlife stuff like I am, but I'd still be interested to hear what you think

Baby bird. Can't fly yet. Should be up in a tree. Is on the ground instead. Will most likely get pwned, before long. Let nature take it's course? Or 'kidnap' it and raise it, with a slight possibility that it's parents may accept it back in 2-ish weeks?
