Chinese

I've decided to start learning Chinese and wonder if anyone knows any good web resources or other good methods to get started? If I remember correctly, I've read about other people learning Chinese around here..
And if all goes well, I'll go to Taiwan on a scholarship next summer So..any suggestions?

Maybe this topic is too serious for the cor, but hey.. maybe someone can answer

Lesson one... Chinese is not a language. If you're likely to go to Taiwan I suggest you learn Mandarin and/or Taiwanise.

Chinese is a nationality and a language family but not a single language. The Chinese languages are; Mandarin, Wu, Cantonese, Min, Xiang, Hakka, and Gan. Most Chinese people speak Mandarin or Cantonese.

Sensitive lot. Rosettastone offers Mandarin, hence the linkage.

I use and recommend using Rosetta Stone. Being able to repeatedly hear the sounds is paramount. The speaking portion of their program is buggy though. I'm Chinese and still fail.
